Blabbermouth is one of those rare singers who can truly sing. the vocals are open, honest, and just beautiful. and the music honours the songs. there's nothing that doesn't need to be there. guitar, banjo, organ, percussion... all do just enough to give the songs life. it's such a relief in this age of overdone showmanship. beautiful tunes, beautifully rendered.
some songs are melancholy. sweet. this is a man who has a true, beautiful, light-filled voice. the sound of a heart telling you its own quirky truth with no frills, sheen or polish. in Amnesia, i didn't know a banjo could be so tender. someone once said that the universal is in the details. or maybe that's god who's in the details. this is a really private, intimate song. and because of that it does what the best songs do - it speaks for the listener. Amnesia is my song now. it tells my story, somehow. it's one of those songs that can save your life.
some of the songs are funny. but not trite or petty funny. i mean hysterical did-he-just-say-that funny. the lyricist that is Blabbermouth is a mad genius. surreal notions of death and bizarre images that can work so well because, well, they must come from a place of truth. you can't try to be this funny and absurd - it has to be organic. self-consciously uncensored. brilliant. the tunes are lovely, the lyrics are titillating. if you like songs that tickle your thinking bone, you'll be in bliss in the land of the "Dancing Heart"
