This CD contains two of his most popular jazz/swing/blues LPs "My Buddy" and the electrifying live set "Buddy Greco On Stage!" from 1960 and '64, respectively. Both albums were recorded for the Epic division of Columbia. "My Buddy" includes his sole million seller "The Lady Is A Tramp", which peaked in the UK at # 26 in the summer of 1960 on the Fontana label. The Rodgers and Hart standard has been recorded by luminaries such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, just to mention a few,but the Buddy Greco rendering is arguably the best. The former pianist, singer and arranger for Benny Goodman & His Orchestra offers stellar performances on both albums with his brilliant trio. On the set's bonus track, Bobby Vinton's brooding ballad "Mr. Lonely", Greco is accompanied by an orchestra. It was released as a single which became a minor US hit for the pianist-singer in 1962. The bulk of the songs are standards, all performed energetically and Greco's rhythm and phrasing is excellent. There are two instrumental tracks, Lerner & Loewe's "Get Me To The Church On Time" and Jackie Gleason's "It's Such A Happy Day", both showcasing his superb piano playing. Buddy Greco has recorded more than 60 albums and his singles count close to 100. None of his albums have sold in large numbers, and he has just one gold single. He had deserved far better than that! Just listen to "My Buddy" and "Buddy Greco On Stage!" and you'll see what I mean!
