Book Description

Sep 1997
When the eldest son of an attractive family inexplicably kills a security guard and promptly takes flight, the brother and mother he leaves behind are not - as might be expected - ostracized. Instead the insatiable media celebrate their plight, transfixed by their misfortune. They become media darlings. When the second murder occurs, they are full-fledged stars. The issues of life and death, ethics and morality, notoriety and anonymity - all are deconstructed and rebuilt in the form of a brilliant narrative that portrays our society's obsession with fame.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Brother's Gun bang on target 14 July 2006
By Seoman
I first read this book in 1998 and to be honest I didn't really know what to make of it. Was "My Brother's Gun" a work of genius or a load of trash. I've just re-read it and I can honestly say that "My Brother's Gun" is without doubt a work of genius. Brooding and intelligent. Horrific yet at times humorous. "My Brother's Gun" is a true cinematic work of art. If there was any justice in the literary world Ray Loriga's "My Brother's Gun" would leave many professional crime writers blushing with envy.

This could have been written by/for a 12 year old kid, and I mean that in the nicest possible way. You get so far into the book you don't even realise some one just got killed. Imagine listening to Bad Moon Rising with the volume just below the range of the human ear. Jesus paid for our sins...now lets get our moneys worth. It's like the man said, get up, get into it and get involved.

5.0 out of 5 stars la síntesis descarnada 19 April 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Importante
5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest writters of Spain "LTV" 28 Jan 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Well, the literature have changed, an ray Loriga is part of that changes, LIterature TeleVision (LTV). Specially on this book a "road" story the humor make us feel angry and at the same time, happy; sometimes like we have dead feelings and with some of the Loriga's words you put them alive.

I read this after I read "Tokyo doesn't love us anymore" and realized how much better RL has gotten as a writer.

TDLUA is a great read. Check it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Caidos del Cielo 11 Nov 1997
By aespejo@puc.cl - Published on Amazon.com
Excelent book. Along with "Heroes" and "Lo Peor de todo" (Worst of All) this book shows the best of hispanamerican new literature.
The story is most fun, very watchable...in your head you see what's happenning, and you can't stop the reading till you get to the end....A must!
Recently Loriga has directed his own film version of the book, with Christina Rosenvinge, and with music by Sonic Youth and Christina.
If you liked him maybe you should also check Fuguet "Bad Vibes" (available on Amazon)
