An Album Packed With Emotion, 21 Jan 2001
By A Customer
This album was recorded shortly after 9 of Reba's band were killed in a plane crash, and as such isn't the happiest album of all time. However, it is packed with emotion and great songs. "If I had only known", the closing track, is a heart-felt ballad in tribute to her friends and band members, and knowing the history you cant help get a little freaked. the title track is about a woman trying to come to terms with her man walking out... its emotional and a great song. "the night the lights went out in Georgia" is a country classic and although some of the lines are a bit cringy "Andy Wo-Lo said 'hello'" its an emotional story of woman recalling how she killed her brothers cheating wife and lovers, and how she couldnt save her brothers life, believe me its very powerful. This album has tons of emotion and some great songs, if you are looking for an emotional album this is a good choice. It's one of Rebas best, and even though it is a decade old it still holds up well.

I've always liked Reba a lot. This cd has lovely songs easy to listen to and sing along. If you've never gotten any of her cd's before this one is a good start. The song "For my broken heart" I could listen to, over and over again.

Reba's Triumph, 7 Feb 2002

FOR MY BROKEN HEART is Reba McEntire's most honest, emotional offering, and her most consistent effort. The album was Reba's first new album in a few years, after the tragic death of her band on a plane. The pain and remorse is evident in her voice, on the title track, which is one of her best songs from the 90's. Elsewhere, the album offers other great songs which will forever be remembered. "Is There Life Out There" is another great song about a mother who is working a job, raising two kids and going to college. Its a spirited performance by Reba, who gives the song life. Her cover of "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" is a great performance as well, as if the song was written for her to sing it. The album shows Reba's ability as a singer to convey different emotions and to get the message she wants to send out to the listener. Other highlights include "He's In Dallas", "If I Had Only Known" and "Buying Her Roses". A must have. Give it a listen.

Intensely emotional, 13 Nov 2003

Reba McEntire's 1991 album FOR MY BROKEN HEART is her most personal, endearing album. It is intensely emotional, start to finish. This came out right after a plane crash killed her band manager and 6 band members. I recently rediscovered this album, and it comes at a very important time in my life. My father is slowly dying and this music just speaks to me. The way she sings is so heartbreaking, but her command is not overbearing. "The Greatest Man I Never Knew" is so sad but a beautiful, beautiful song. "If I Had Only Known" is very sad too, a song about wishing we knew when people would die so we could hold onto those last moments. The title track is a killer, "I guess the world didn't stop for my broken heart", so sad but a great song. I love the ballad "I Wouldn't Go That Far", a beautiful ballad about not being ready for various stages of love. "Is There Life Out There" was a modest hit, and gave us one of Reba's best videos. Her version of "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" is excellent and classic Reba. This is one of her best albums, if not the best album she's ever recorded.

Absolutely the best Reba album of all time! As much as I cried just listening to this album, I don't know how she got through the recording process. It's the most painful album I've ever listened to. Bus as sad as these songs are, they serve as a reminder that life is so short, and to appreciate every moment that you have with the ones that you love. It is an album about loss, but also one about hope and the resilience of the human spirit. Although For My Broken Heart is probably the most well known of the songs on the album, Bobby is the heartbreaker. A vivid montage of Bobby in prison, his son, and the heartbreaking tragedy that binds them together automatically pops into your mind and it's as if a movie is going on right inside of your head. In the end when the son offers Bobby his forgiveness and his love, the song will have you weeping aloud. No matter what musical genre you search, you will never find a better album than this one. Maybe some that equal it, but none better. It is a masterpiece and one to be cherished forever.
