I have struggled with breastfeeding positions as my little one is a big baby and I am quite large-chested, so one hand holds the breast and the other hand is not strong enough for my 96th perecentile child. The Brest friend pillows are a godsend - little one can rest on the pillow in comfort and I get a hand free! I have the normal pillow, but it is rather unwieldy to take out and about. This inflatable version deflates to fit in your handbag and inflates with a few puffs thanks to the great seal. Highly recommended, especially if you already have a Brest friend standard pillow

This is a brilliant product, I really love it.
I bought this to go away on holiday with and for use on the aeroplane.
I used this on our long haul flights and everyday when I was away. I was really worried about feeding my baby on the flight, as we can only feed in the rugby hold position (under the armpit hold) and even though I think this pillow is intended for use for front feeding, it allowed me to feed in our normal position with no issues.
It inflates really quickly and deflates even quicker, so really handy on the plane. It does fold up to go back in the little bag it comes in, but took me a while,so I just took a slightly larger bag to pop it back into to keep it clean on aeroplane floor.
My only negative and it is only a small one is that the back rest (which for me became a side rest) would not deflate instantly like the rest of the pillow, this deflated over time and thus I couldn't get it in it's little bag easily, BUT this did not detract from the great use of this pillow.
I would highly recommend this pillow to any Mum, especially if you can only feed in the Rugby Hold position like me, where you need a support underneath.

We only had it a short time before it started leaking. It deflates over the period of a feed which is a really inconvenient

Amazing find! 7 Jun 2011

We have been using a regular Brest Friend pillow since Day 1 and I completely love it. However, now my daughter is five months old and we are taking a trip (flying) out of state in July to visit family. I panicked when I realized that I would need to start trying different holds or figuring out other ways to nurse her. I practiced a few times and she was not very happy! I guess we both just got set in our ways. So I figured, at the very least, I could get one of those inflatable bath pillows or something, just so I could have a pillow...I came to Amazon and searched inflatable pillow and I just could not believe it when this came up! What a find!

Anyway, I received it today, and I want to specifically address problems other reviewers had. I don't want to be mean, but the problems people reported would only be problems if you were not too bright. For instance, the pillow absolutely can be inflated by mouth. I just inflated and deflated it several times myself. As a matter of fact, I don't see how you could inflate it with a pump. It doesn't have the right kind of valve. I'm not really sure why there are so many negative reviews about this, when it is the easiest thing in the world to inflate, and even has an awesome valve that is way better than the ones you get on other inflatable items (where you have to sort of squeeze it in your teeth...you know what I'm talking about). It's bigger and has an automatic hold feature. So nothing leaks out when you take a breath. And it fills up FAST.

Secondly, I understand the cover is a little flimsier than the regular ones, but, duh, if you inflate it partially, put the cover on, and THEN inflate it the rest of the way, you'll know when it's full and you won't stretch the fabric to the point of breaking the zipper. This seems like a no-brainer to me. That's what I did, and it fits great and is exactly like the original Brest Friend. They've even put the valve right where the zipper ends, so you just have to unzip a little to inflate and deflate it. I've just deflated it, folded it with the cover still on it, and put it back in the little case it comes with and voila! It'll be so easy and convenient to inflate it again when I need it.

In short, I absolutely love this item! I am so thankful it exists and that the makers thought of everything to make it as convenient as possible.

Two quick notes about the cover: the one that came with my order was not the one in the picture. This didn't matter to me at all...it was still really nice and similar colors. But just watch out if you really love this sunburst design. Also, the cover on the package has a velcro adjustment for the strap, but the pillow I got has the regular clip and strap like the regular pillow. Again, this doesn't bother me. I'm a huge fan of the original, so I'm glad it's the same.

excellent for travelling - and so-so for every day use 16 April 2010

This is an inflatable nursing pillow which is excellent for travelling. We were able to use it on the plane without having to stack up pillows and blankets under our baby.
Now that we are visiting the grandparents for two months, I use this pillow around the house too - but only occasionally. The baby sweats on it which is not a problem with an ordinary nursing pillow that we left at home. The cover is pretty thin.
The zipper broke when we were pulling the cover on the pillow. So the tip here is not to inflate the pillow fully when putting on the cover and inflate the pillow to the desired size (preferrably not too tightly) with the cover on. The same goes with deflating and packing the pillow for future uses.
The pillow also helps to hold our 5-month old baby on my lap. It elevates her and provides flat surface for sitting or standing her with my help.

Great for travel....but first one leaked 21 Jan 2011
By K. Smith - Published on Amazon.com
Being a new mom, I started out with the original Brest Friend and used it all the time. But we were taking our first airplane trip over the holidays and I just couldn't take ANOTHER carry-on item. So, I ordered the travel brest Friend.

1) Easy to blow up
2) Folds (or rolls) up fairly easily - I kept the original packaging and every time I was done with it, I let out the air, rolled it up carefully and stuffed it back in the packaging. It wasn't pretty, but it was effective. I could then get it in my carry-on bag.
3) Comfortable - Not as cushy as the original Brest Friend, but good none the less.

1) First one leaked - Luckily, I pulled it out of the packaging as soon as it arrived to see how it worked. We discovered that it had a small leak. I sent it back to Amazon and got a replacement. The 2nd one worked like a champ.

Notes: Be sure NOT to overinflate it before you take off. Once settled in my airplane seat, I filled this up with air to nurse my baby during takeoff (it helps clear their ears). But I forgot that it expands as we climb in altitude. It didn't burst or anything, but lets just say that it was very firm once we were at our level off altitude. It is also a little difficult to let just a little air out...you have to remove a large plug to let any air out. On the return trip I blew it up on the ground, but left it a little squishy. Worked much better that time.

When it works, it's okay but easily punctured on travel. Didn't inflate on first use 6 Aug 2012

I bought this for a two-week trip with my 3 month old, thinking I really can't breastfeed without my pillow! I have the regular deluxe brestfriend and absolutely love it, I've used it for 2 kids now. Was excited to use this, as it gets pretty small, about the size/volume of a couple folded up tshirts for both the inflatable part and cover. And it looked just like my regular brestfriend.

On first use, it didn't inflate. Terrible! I'd just come off the plane, was engorged, and couldn't get this thing inflated as there was a leak somewhere. Later, I submerged it in the bathtub to find the leak, and I found a tiny little pinhole. Luckily, this comes with a repair patch so I fixed it up no problem. But still made for an annoying first use and I didn't have peace of mind knowing this thing was more fragile than I thought.

Overall, annoying pillow, including the puncture and fact that I needed to reinflate it every night as it slowly loses air (like many other inflatable items). I'd get a different travel pillow if there were a better one out there, haven't found it yet and this will do I guess until then. It is definitely a reasonable price.

Comparison to regular my Brestfriend (deluxe version):

* Similar size and shape. Has the head "bumps", portion that goes around the waist, with the higher back height, buckle.
* Does not feel as stable as the regular version.
* Seems well constructed, actually clever in the various air walls they engineered to match the shape of the original. BUT, plastic is easily torn or punctured as I experienced.
* Cotton fabric, pretty thin but decent.
* Cover has zipper and loop enclosure to lock the zipper strap. Also has the little pocket as well.
* The valve is located at the bottom - it's very easy to inflate (if yours doesn't leak), it took me less than a minute. And to deflate it's REALLY easy, as it's a two-stage valve. First stage is like a regular valve on an inflatable where you blow into; second is a very large hole to deflate it quickly. You just pull the end of the valve to pop out the first stage.
* You'll have to reinflate every day if you like the pillow firm like I do; it leaks slowly even with all punctures repaired. A bit annoying.

My advice: keep the inflatable part in a heavy duty ziplock gallon bag in your suitcase to protect against small punctures or rips, and make sure to bring the included repair patch!

Better than the original 5 Aug 2011
By MageeMom - Published on Amazon.com

I have and loved the original Brest Friend pillow. After nearly 3 1/2 years of daily use, the foam wore into 2 pieces, but I just zipped up the cover over it anyway. When the zipper became completely unable to zip or be fixed, I had to decide if it was worth replacing now that baby #2 is almost a year old. We nursed exclusively for 6mos, w/o any formula for a year, and only at bedtime till 2yrs with my first and want to do the same for my second. We haven't decided if there will be a baby #3 or not.

After seeing that this pillow was only $5 more than just buying a new slipcover and with a plane trip vacation on the horizon, I bought it and figured if it popped, I'd still have a new cover.

The zippers on the slipcovers are a little cheap, but I made the first one last 3 1/2 years, so . . .

I will also note that the picture shows a green with yellow spots which is called Sunburst. The green paisley actually is a light green background with a mainly paisley, but with floral elements, design that is light blue, dark green, and white. I am even more pleased with it, and I feel it is very gender neutral with the blue and floral elements cancelling each other and neither one mattering much anyway.

Okay, now for the impressive part! The inflatable version is so nice and firm, and won't get old and squishier over time like my foam. Plus I won't have to worry about what is lurking in the foam after all the accidents (both ends) that babies have.

And yes, the reviewer who recommends only partially inflating it before putting the cover on has something. BUT, the reviewer who says that it takes forever to inflate is wrong and missed a KEY and AWESOME feature!!! I was so impressed, I deflated mine so that I could time myself blowing it up. It took me 45 seconds and 15 breaths. Nice. When I bought it, I figured I'd blow it up once and use it that way, but this is so great that I can actually see myself putting it in the diaper bag deflated if I have another. I thought I'd only deflate it for airplane trips, but no, it's completely workable!

Okay, so the key feature to this wonderfulness explained, in case you are like that reviewer: the opening is larger than standard which makes for easy deflation in a snap. However, the black part in the plug has another plug! You put the black part of the plug into the big hole before you start. You should then be looking at a black opening with a 6-petal daisy-looking thing with a black stick in the middle facing you. Blow there! It also won't deflate between breaths! And you don't have any crazy valve pinching to do either. Tuck the clear part of the plug in, and you are done.

Other caveats: the "head pillows" on the foam are higher, so if you use them, this pillow is much flatter.

Lastly, I keep hearing a deflating sound, as if punctured, near the backrest. So far I have not found a leak or lost significant air, but I've used it once so far. If it is a problem, I will get a replacement from Amazon. It does come with a puncture patch, but if it is real, and not some self-sealing part of the design, I suspect it would be on a seam where the patch wouldn't lay flat, so I'll have to see if I got a dud and need a replacement or if I can just ignore it and use it forever.

The inflate/deflate is so impressive I'm giving it 5 stars anyway and hoping for the best. You will LOVE this pillow!!!

If you are not familiar with the original, I love the flat firmness and the belt that keep it on you. Really helps with posture and baby can't roll in or out easily. Despite new labeling (for liability I'm sure) I can easily walk around in it while holding baby on with one hand. There is a reason the lactation consultants recommend this brand! This last paragraph I find to be true of the original and the inflatable/travel.
