"A Century Ends" was not the album that made David Gray famous, it was not even an album that anyone ever heard of until the release of the "commercial", "White Ladder". That is what makes this so special, the frustration and anger he felt after years of never being noticed, are so clearly visible. It is as if Gray grabs you by the jugular and says "Damnit listen to me, I'm worth it" which, of course we did, eventually (some of us, anyway). Raw. The only way to describe this album. Acoustic chords, rasping vocals and AN ABSENCE OF KEYBOARDS! One other thing, listen to "Debauchery" and decide for yourself, sexual? angry? or hilarious? GET 'EM OFF!

If you're one of the people who've just discovered David Gray on back of his recent hit single, and accompanying album White Ladder, then you should definately buy this album. White Ladder is a wonderful album, but A Century Ends is just sublime. It has sounded better & better over the years. Go on, but it . . . this is as good as it gets.

With songs like Shine, Century ends,Debaucheryl. Wisdom and the classic Birds without wings this album should have been high in the music for the millenuim charts. It is just a shame that the radio stations don't give his songs more air play so that every one knows who he is.This album is truely a classic so buy it now. I know you want be dissapointed
