Imagine if you will: Syd Barrett jamming with John Lennon. Jangling riffs tangle while Barrett and Lennon harmonize along with Grace Slick singing in Brazilian. Smooth bass and jazzy drums pound a Latin rhythm and Brian Wilson starts in with the keyboard and sound effects... There, you've got it: Os Mutantes. When you hear them (and I strongly recomend doing so) you might disagree with my comparisons. I wouldn't blame you, the Mutants are highly original. And they are in the afore mentioned musicians' class: creative and innovative with plenty of technical proficiency and a sound understanding of music. Being an aficionado of psychedelic, I'm into their sixties stuff but everything they've done is quality. `Mutantes' is the second of a very lovely pair indeed (the first being `Os Mutantes' - note the `Os'). Both albums are equally excellent. My advice is get both. You won't regret it.
