Synopsis

In the year 2707, Earth's natural resources have been exhausted by mankind. Battle rages between the soldiers of four leading Corporations: Capitol, Bauhaus, Mishima and Imperial. When the violence breaks an ancient stone seal, Necromutants appear and begin to multiply by the millions, destroying all before them. The Corporations' leader, Constantine (John Malkovich), is about to abandon the planet and leave countless innocents to their desperate fate, when he is approached by Brother Samuel (Ron Pearlman), leader of the Brotherhood, an ancient monastic order who offers hope to the discouraged leader. Against the odds Constantine entrusts brother Samuel and other likeminded soldiers to save them from the mutant armies.

I had heard a lot about this movie and was surprised when it did not have a cinema release. Despite the great influx of horror movies, there has never been one that truly captures the "Mutant" genera since the 1990's. Set in the distant future, WW3 has broken out between the four major corporations that now run Earth. The movie sees an ancient alien machine reactivated after many years to bring untold suffering to mankind in the form of mutants. An unlikely band of humans from all the represented corporations lead by a monk are brought together to fulfil a task set years ago to destroy the machine. The plot is sound and has a good premise in relation to its budget. The budget is also an issue when it comes to quality of visual, some scenes seem more realistic than others and it is very difficult to become involved in the dialogue between characters which is incredibly 2D at times.

However, I must say that it is well worth watching, the special effects are quite something and the general gore and war scenes are enough to keep the die hard fans of the genera interested...for a while. Worth it? Probably, but I would wait to find it in a bargain basket or at a lower price!

Very interesting movie filmed in the same way that Sky Captain was.
Sadly, UK release lacks the whole pack of extra content US version has.
If interested in it, buy US version: unlocked and full of extras.
Avoid UK release, is really poor in content.

I love Indie films and considering the production budget was just £900k, its a heck of a film. Yep an extra million or two could have added polish, better CGI and a tad more light but for an extreme low budget B movie with a great cast its a cracker.
Fast paced, brutal realism and great directing. I just hope its picked up for a decent budget sequel. I would love to see what they could do with a Hollywood budget.
One for those who enjoy a different twist on their scifi/horror. Reminds me of those Japanese films that pull you in from a totally different direction.

The war at the beginning of the movie is pretty good. This movie is a mix of very old tech like steam and coal power mixed with more advance tech. Read more
