Product Description

Romantic comedy based on the novel by Claire Cook. Thirty-something preschool teacher Sarah Nolan (Diane Lane) has been divorced for eight months, which is much too long for her family to bear. With the best of intentions, they stage an intervention in an all-out effort to get her out of pyjamas and back into the dating scene. Leading the charge are Sarah's sisters, Carol (Elizabeth Perkins) and Christine (Ali Hillis), and their widowed father Bill (Christopher Plummer), who has been seeing free-spirited Dolly (Stockard Channing) after meeting her online. Eager to launch their sister's own cyber-dating debut, Carol and Christine pretend to be Sarah and post her profile on a website, and wait for the responses to pour in. Sarah soon endures a series of hilariously disastrous mismatches and first dates as the website offers up a stream of eager wannabes and one possible maybe - awkward but intriguing boat builder Jake Anderson (John Cusack).

Synopsis

Sarah Nolan, a newly divorced woman cautiously rediscovering romance with the enthusiastic but often misguided help of her family. As she braves a series of hilarious disastrous mismatches and first dates, Sarah begins to trust her own instincts again and learns that no matter what, it's never a good idea to give

Until I watched this film I hadn't quite come face to face with my addiciton for trashy romantic comedy. This film was exactly that, a film about people making and not quite managing to make relationships, with many laughs along the way. Full of cliche and fun, I loved it!

I thought I'd made a mistake when I ordered this dvd...don't like dogs...(long story!!!) and wondered why I had picked the film to watch in the first place!!! It turned out to be one of those films that you don't expect anything from (middle of the road) and get a nice surprise when you watch it. The film was a typical "rom com" (girl looks for boy and not all goes smoothly) but had lovely elements of chemistry and comedy in it. There was a large interfering family who just wanted the divorced loner in the family (Lane) to meet a man. The chemistry between the family members was brilliant and Christopher Plummer as the elderly Irish dad with a twinkle in his eye for the ladies was a great character. The film was hardly about dogs after all (relief!!!) and kept your interest as you were never quite sure what was going to happen next! It had "laugh out loud" moments and "ahhhh" moments too. Although I agree that it's a great "girly" movie it is also a lovely film to watch for a romantic night in with the fire roaring and a nice bottle of red wine!! Highly recommended!

This was a true feel-good movie...thoroughly enjoyable. It wasn't the greatest film ever but a really nice relaxing watch with some good one-liners. I won't remember it in a year's time but great on a Saturday night slouch on the sofa.

This is a charming, easy to watch film, which nevertheless is written well, and in places not only funny but moving. If you're feeling down, it'll help you up again.

This film is very funny, very smart, and very enjoyable. It is there to entertain, and entertain is certainly does.
DIANE LANE (Oscar nominee for "Unfaithful", "Under The Tuscan Sun" and "The Perfect Storm") is superb in the lead role as Sarah. She is supported by the superb JOHN CUSACK (High Fidelity, Identity) who plays Jake. The two stars have GREAT chemistry and there are several great one-liners.
There is situation comedy, physical comedy and some smart dialogue. All in all a very enjoyable and entertaining movie on an excellent DVD with great picture and sound. Also some extras!

This movie had been on my to-view list for so long, that it felt good to have finally watched it and I loved it. John Cusack was brilliant in his lead role as the broken hearted divorced boat builder who got the girl in the end. Diane Lane was equally enchanting as the lonely divorcee whose family were desperately trying to fix her up with a date. She played the vulnerable but feisty lonely heart very well. Add to this mix Christopher Plummer the eccentric Irish dad to this large dysfunctional family and all cast ensemble including Elisabeth Perkins, Stockard Channing, Dermot Mulroney amongst others and you have a winner. It was a worthy romantic comedy, though funny it addressed a lot of real life problems, like the low self esteem and lack of confidence to date post divorce, the fear of getting hurt again, learning to trust again and open ones heart to love. This is a great movie and one I am sure I will watch over and over again. I recommend it as a family movie, feel good movie, rom-com with a lot of depth. You can't go wrong with it. The DVD comes with special features mainly deleted scenes and audio commentary

I loved this film the first time I watched it and decided after renting it 5 times that maybe I should buy it.
A lovely, heart-warming film which gives hope to all those suddenly single at a difficult age, people who have interfering, but well-meaning family members!
An interesting and amusing take on the use of internet dating sights and the kind of people you could meet.
All in all a great feel-good film.

This is the second copy of this movie for me. Lost one when I let someone borrow it and it didnt come back!! Have my moments when sadly I watch it twice in a week then not for months. But when I feel the need for a bottle of red, a box of chocs and this old friend its like a comfortable pair of slippers : .... good old cheesy romance with all the hopes and dreams thrown in. John Cusack and Diane Lane are adorable.
