I thought I'd made a mistake when I ordered this dvd...don't like dogs...(long story!!!) and wondered why I had picked the film to watch in the first place!!! It turned out to be one of those films that you don't expect anything from (middle of the road) and get a nice surprise when you watch it. The film was a typical "rom com" (girl looks for boy and not all goes smoothly) but had lovely elements of chemistry and comedy in it. There was a large interfering family who just wanted the divorced loner in the family (Lane) to meet a man. The chemistry between the family members was brilliant and Christopher Plummer as the elderly Irish dad with a twinkle in his eye for the ladies was a great character. The film was hardly about dogs after all (relief!!!) and kept your interest as you were never quite sure what was going to happen next! It had "laugh out loud" moments and "ahhhh" moments too. Although I agree that it's a great "girly" movie it is also a lovely film to watch for a romantic night in with the fire roaring and a nice bottle of red wine!! Highly recommended!

Until I watched this film I hadn't quite come face to face with my addiciton for trashy romantic comedy. This film was exactly that, a film about people making and not quite managing to make relationships, with many laughs along the way. Full of cliche and fun, I loved it!

This was a true feel-good movie...thoroughly enjoyable. It wasn't the greatest film ever but a really nice relaxing watch with some good one-liners. I won't remember it in a year's time but great on a Saturday night slouch on the sofa.

Flawed Script!
The cast are great! Love John Cusack, and I really, really love Diane Lane, but the movie is let down by a the script.

A nice film
This is a nice film but not the best in the romcom genre. The 2 leads are good and the chemistry is there but it does lose its way from time to time and becomes a bit predictable.

good fun - feel good factor 10
Very easy to watch, funny and made me laugh. A good girlie film to watch with friends.

Entertaining romantic comedy
Some sad bits but mostly funny and entertaining. Will ring bells with anyone with an interfering family who "only want the best for you."

Enjoyable
I think this film is quite... decent. If you don't enjoy some bits, you'll enjoy other. And it makes you feel happy, if not hopeful at the chance of a supermarket snog :)
