At last! Great effort from the hungarian composer and conductor Pesko to orchestrate the unfinished opera, or 6 scenes from Mussorgsky's first operetic attempt - opera Salammbo. One does not cease to wonder how a yongster at the age of 24, which was Mussorgsky in 1863, could compose a music of such an emotional an psichological depth and profoundness! Though one could desire singers and esspecially chorus be more fluent and with better articulation of russian, all the cast and especially Zoltan Pesko deserves greatest praises for revealing us yet surprisingly unknown treasures of music, composed by (in my humble opinion) the greatest of composers. Well, now four operas of Mussorgsky are available. I anticipate that the opera "Marriage" will soon see the light of day too.
