5.0 out of 5 stars An interesting read for fans of early 80's electronic music., 14 Jan 2010
By Benjamin Higginbotham "Try it out." - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Musician and the Micro (Paperback)
Published in 1983, the book explains many of the (then) new technological advances in computers and how that ties into many of the early samplers, synthesizers and drum machines of the time. I especially enjoyed reading about the Fairlight C.M.I. Series II (The series IIx was not yet released at the time of printing) and the interviews with Warren Cann (Ultravox) and Hans Zimmer. The book also discusses composing music on the home computer, which is an amusing read considering all that one can do with a simple home computer these days. I came across an interview on youtube with the books author and Phil Oakey (Human League) discussing computers and music and their integration around the time this book was published, search youtube for "The Human League (Phil Oakey) - Interview" and it should come up. Fascinating stuff if you are into early 80's samplers.
