Our older child received this as a Xmas gift a few years ago, probably no longer sold in dept stores now but maybe liquidation or garage sales (ours was from Samko Sales Warehouse in Toronto, ON, Canada). The box shows it's made by Hilco Corp.
It's a fun game that will have the kids AND adults shrieking with delight & laughter trying to catch the fish but Freddy does have some drawbacks. Here are the pros & cons:
PROS:
*helps eye/hand coordination as the little nylon "fish" blow out the top & flutter down erratically, good luck catching them in your net, they're sneaky!
*the music Freddy plays is repetitive & catchy, you WILL find yourself humming it days, weeks, months, even YEARS later as we've found.
*good for various ages, toddlers, preschoolers, even school-age kids around 7-8 can play this with younger siblings & still find it fun & challenging... even adults can play this with kids & have a good time too.
*the tube/spout is thick blue plastic so you barely see the fish as they come up, maybe a few shadows, so it's a surprise when they blow out.
CONS:
*weak motor, not quite powerful enough to blow ALL the fish out after the first half of them or so, be sure to use top-notch batteries like Duracell or Energizer, not cheap ones, to help give the blower fan as much strength as possible from high-end batteries (takes 4 "C").
*the plastic tube MUST be rolled up before going back in the box to avoid creases where the nylon fish can get caught & stuck. Do NOT fold or just stuff the tube into the box.
*the long length of the stiff plastic tube combined with the underpowered motor/fan makes us wonder if trimming about 6-8" off the end of the tube would help?? We haven't done it... yet.
Hope this review helps anyone thinking of buying Freddy or that already owns him but has experienced the same problems.
