Ay-Kherel means "ray of moonlight" in the Tuvan language. The group was founded in 1994 by one of the most talented masters of overtone throat-singing Vladimir S. Soyan. The Ay-Kherel repertoire includes throat singing carried out in five styles: khoomei, kargyraa, sygyt, borbangnadyr and ezengileer. Booklet text in English, German, French and Spanish.

Not quite in the same league as some of the better known Tuvan music groups (Huun Huur Tu, Alash), but worthy of a listen anyway, covering a good range of pieces with their own interpretations. A good place to start "tuning in" to Tuvan styles.

I heard this album being played at a sound healing workshop and loved it so much that I found out the title and purchased a copy. This CD is uplifting, joyful and fun. It really will bring a smile to your face and have you bouncing around, that is if you like the sound of Mongolian throat singing! It is most definitely an acquired taste so if you've not heard of this before, I'd check it out on YouTube or something first. Personally I absolutely love it.
