I have yet to see the cartoon series for which this is the soundtrack, but if the visuals live up to the score then it must be hip, referential and thrilling. The soundtrack is by J. G. Thirlwell (better known to the world by his alias, Foetus) and leans heavily on his standard techniques of driving rhythm section, bombastic samples and slick orchestral sounds.

With no vocals, this comes closer overall to Thirlwell's work under the project titles Manorexia and Steroid Maximus, although tracks with an obvious debt (for example) to Morricone's spaghetti western scores give this album a lighthearted feel. The comparative brevity of the pieces - together with the absence of the sonic experiments that appear on other albums - means that this soundtrack has a pace and general appeal which should recommend it to Foetus newcomers, while pleasing existing fans.

Certainly this album punches its weight with other recent Thirlwell projects, and while the Steroid Maximus album Ectopia is arguably deeper, Venture Bros. has an irrepressible energy that carves out for it a unique and distinctive niche in Thirlwell's increasingly diverse discography.

Great rip roaring tracks that also work as body movement for those involved in hi energy shape shifting on the dance floor. A collection of instru-mentals culled from a USA animation (yet to be seen).

It takes the template of Morricone and then gives it a rawer edge as the music becomes hyper active or more sexual than the average screen composer who tones down their material to diluted levels for mass sugary consumption. No such watery morass here, this is all in your face or on your lap music that also engages with the ear and the brain.

If you wanted to know what the score is? Give this a whirl and let the images flow inside the templedome.

Great Music that will BLOW YOUR MIND!!!! 16 April 2009
By Matthew M. Osborne - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Vinyl
Have been waiting about 5 years for J.G. Thirwell's high octane music for VENTURE BROS. to be ripped from the visuals of the show, so this a more than welcomed release. However, I had no idea that the item above was an LP release, as it is indicted in the albums Amazon description as a "Disc." Fortunately, a CD version of the score can be found on [Adult Swim]'s website, under "Music." Or go here - [...] Also, be aware that the CD version features 20 tracks, while the vinyl LP release is limited to only 16 tracks.

Hope this helps!

Seriously good music. 12 Nov 2009
By Drew Mcmanus - Published on Amazon.com
Don't let the fact that this is a soundtrack from an animated television series fool you, JG Thirlwell has obviously put a great deal of investment in this project. His work with the Kronos Quartet is fantastic and this is an unmistakable outreach from those efforts.

One of the more frustrating component s of writing commercial music is the limitation on length but with the exception of the few tracks under :60, Thirlwell provides well developed themes that have direction and motion. If you're a fan of the Venture Brothers, this album should more than satisfy a long empty hole in your heart and if you've never heard of the series before, you'll simply enjoy the music.

Hopefully, this album is the first of several more to come along with many more wonderful seasons of Venture Brothers fun!

Amazing 27 April 2009
By Hillary Anne - Published on Amazon.com
Mr. Thirlwell is a genius of modern music. He combines notes and chords in ways a normal person would never think of, to create a chaotic twist on "spy show" jazz, giving the music that wonderful Venture Brothers feel of madness. The orchestra samples are full of depth and masterfully used.

Finally it's here! 7 April 2009
By T. Dupree - Published on Amazon.com
I have been waiting for something like this since season 1. I always wanted an mp3 of the music that plays on the episode list of the season 1 dvd and finally it's here. The name of the song is Warped Span, and it is song number 18 on this album. Excellent music from an excellent show.
