Music to feed the soul. Calming and relaxing. Was actually looking for music by the 19th Century composer and bought this by mistake. But a mistake well worth making!

The best relaxing and inspirational CD in my collection. 10 Aug. 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I'm back to buy this CD for a friend who writes while listening to this type of music, as I do. The CD inspires and presents consistent selections of music that take you "out of it" and allow you to think. I've purchased many CDs looking for this type of music, and I listen to this one most often. It's a rare find.

Western Classical soul -ambient 27 May 2011

Thomas Moore did a great thing for the world when he went about compiling this. The pieces on it are not well-known to the average classical listener, and, for those who are not classical listeners, it's a great introduction to some of the more subtle and atmospheric offerings of the genre. Together these pieces create an ambience for noticing the felt sensations of being human, allowing for the listener to not only relax but to process and move through the shadows that may linger from the day, or from seasons or years. Selections include surprising instrumental journeys, and a few vocal/choral tracks that subtly go to unexpected crescendos while also maintaining the tone of the album.

The very slow movements in these pieces speak to the pre-verbal and non-verbal self, and open majestic inner places. When listening, don't be surprised if you feel the play of light and dark (that makes up this journey through earthly suffering) become an emotional breakthrough, returning you to awareness of the immanent and ever-changing divine, or just a sense of being connected to the wonders of the world. This collection can be played on repeat for soul-soothing sanity during crises, and as a renewing retreat in these times of information overload and global stress. Over the years I've given it as a gift to friends going through transitions, and it's also a wonderful birth & postpartum music resource.

It's one of my go-to recordings for washing away the day and preparing for rest - it's so conducive that I've played it probably at least 1000 times over the last decade.

Uplifting & soothing music 18 Sept. 2012

This is a great, albeit short compilation [wish there was a 2nd c.d.] of some very moving, at times uplifting and on other tracks very soothing. I highly recommend this for anyone who has an eclectic taste in quality classic[al] instrumentals. I play this to unwind at the end of a trying day! I wish there was a series of "Music for the Soul" c.d.'s. Love it!

Raise your spirits with this incredible, uplifting CD. Have loved it for years, and bought another for a friend. I am a huge fan of choral music, and this melts me.
