Fans of Dylan-you might want to check out this new release. No, there's no rare tracks. The 2 CDs contain what people would consider many of Dylan's greatest songs. That's many-not all. There's several Dylan songs that could've been included-especially from the first few albums. But the really cool thing are the large size photographs that come with this package. Basically the prints are almost the size of a vinyl record sleeve. If you look closely, you'll see that one print is in color. Like other editions, all the prints are b&w-things must've changed between the initial release and whats included. Also one print shown isn't included-Sony used another photo instead. Everything is inside a hardback style package that's (obviously) a little larger than the photos-think LP size. I gave it four "stars" because it's music most fans already own, but the concept is pretty neat and the prints are good quality.
This is Sony's latest attempt to make a few more bucks off some of it's artists. This is aimed (I presume) at people (like me) who still purchase CDs over ephemeral electronic means. It's the music version for people who still like to hold a book in their hands and turn the paper pages instead of reading from a screen. No disrespect-to each his own-I just prefer holding something "authentic/real" in my hands-like a vinyl album, or a CD, or a book.
The music is well mastered and the prints are suitable for framing. Yes, you already own these tunes, but this package is just too cool to pass up. The price is another factor-pretty inexpensive-if this kind of thing excites you. This is something new Sony (Europe) is trying, and there's currently no plans for U.S. editions. Other artists include Jeff Buckley, Elvis Presley, and Miles Davis. Others will hopefully follow. If you're thinking about purchasing one (or another one as a gift for a friend) don't wait-you never know about availability of these kinds of releases. I also have the similar Miles Davis and Presley sets for anyone thinking about those releases. I own all the music, but for the relatively low price, and the photographs, they're also pretty cool. Check it out now.
There's also a "Dylan Music & Pictures" box set that's available as an import that's similar.
