The Magic of Molloys 30 Jun 2002
Format:Audio CD
An excellent recording of traditional Irish music in its favourite home, the Irish pub. Its raw and authentic with no production. The murmur of the crowd combined with the banter of the musicians makes you feel as if you were there. Magical moments that could never be captured in a recording studio.

A must have for all fans of folk music!!!!

Anyone looking for a cut-price, top-quality introduction to Irish music would do far better to buy this than one of those 'Rough Guide' type compilations. Unlike them, it has the sense of spontaneity, sociability and polished amateurism characteristic of the music at its best. Some of the contributors are well-known recording artists, others are not, but for all the key tenet is observed: no-one is bigger than the music.

It seems those involved went to great lengths to capture that 'session' feel, and they've succeeded as far as anyone is ever likely to succeed - not the wild intensity of the 'after dark' session, but the mellow joy of a few afternoon tunes over a pint of porter. Top notch.

By Sheggs
Format:Audio CD
Not only is it a brilliant album, it is the essence of a road trip around Ireland we took in a campervan back in 1998. As soon as it starts playing, I am transported back to smoke filled pubs (remember them?) awash with Guinness, laughter and good music
