Product Description

Product Description

Perhaps better known as an actor and comedian, Jackie Gleason managed to get through most of the 1950s with another string to his bow, that of an accomplished musician. He produced a series of best selling mood music albums for Capitol Records, with the stated aim to make musical wallpaper that should never be intrusive, but conducive. To this end he fashioned a hugely successful catalogue of romantic instrumentals, with each of his first ten albums selling more than a million copies each and the first spending 153 weeks in the Top Ten! These figures are even more impressive when one appreciates that Jackie could neither read nor write music, instead describing to assistants the tunes he conceived in his head! Music Martinis & Memories was originally released in 1954 and technically is his first 12 album (earlier releases were on the old 10 format) and became his third chart topper.

3.0 out of 5 stars Looking for a specific song 25 Mar 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Was looking for a specific song "Shangri La" which is listed on the album. When I listen to it online it plays the right song. But when I got the CD the "Shangri La" on the CD was the wrong song. Not sure why!!! Don't get me wrong... Lovely music! I love Jackie Gleason. But only bought the CD for that one song!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully relaxing and nostalgic 6 Mar 2004
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
What a great album for dinner parties, quiet evenings by yourself or with a special 'some one'. Not 'Musak'. Takes you back to when having a drink and dinner was what we envisioned with a cold martini, lovely setting and warm music.
Almost anyone who wishes the '50s and 60's' were back will enjoy the CD. Great for practicing those lovely, slow dances.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jackie Gleason Orchestra: Music, Martinis, and Memories (1954) 14 May 2013
By Anthony Trimarchi - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is the type of music you light a few candles, turn the lights low, and just lay in bed relaxing. The music makes you feel like you're in a 1940s black and white detective film noir drinking a martini. It smoothing, relaxing, clean, nostalgic and almost haunting as with the track "Yesterdays" and "Unforgettable". Released in 1954 with Bobby Hackett on trumpet and arranged by Jackie Gleason, this HiFi stereo music record covers instrumental and trumpet versions of classic 1930s/1940s hits such as "I Can't Get Started" and "I Got It Bad". The perfect musical CD for romancing your sweetheart, dancing, dreaming, relaxing, trying to take in a long forgotten era in history or your life, or just laying in bed with lights turned low drinking a soft martini. Words can't describe the feeling this music brings to one except "wow". Jackie Gleason Orchestra: Music, Martinis, and Memories is available on LP, Audio Cassette, and Compact Disk (CD). Sometimes out of print you can still easily find it available (new or used and sometime combined with another Jackie Gleason Orchestra album) in all of the above formats so I would recommend paying no more than $20.00 for this album. Five out of five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars No other sound like it. 19 Mar 2014

I don't know what it is about Jackie Gleason's music but it has a certain relaxation factor about it. Well, let's say you probably have to be from the 50's/60's era to remember that Jackie Gleason produced his own style of orchestration. Just sit down in your easy chair, make yourself a martini and close your eyes. I guarantee your blood pressure will go down.
