This is a fantastic video for anyone who has always dreamed about being able to play the violin, but has always been put off by the snobbery surrounding this instrument. This video takes you through everything from buying your first violin to playing your first tune. Ric Sanders is the perfect presenter as he slowly takes you through the basics and explains everything he is doing. There are lots of close-ups which makes it easy to copy what he is doing on screen. Sander's folk background makes this an ideal video for anyone who wants to play folk and traditional music (most violin books seem to concentrate on classical music). This video does not shy away from the fact that it takes months of practice to fully master the basics of playing the violin, but it does give you the confidence to give it a try. An inspirational video.

I found this DVD to be a great help. He shows how to do vibrato, scales and how to play. He does not teach you how to read music, so it would be helpful to have a look on the internet or buy a basic AB theory book.
The man on the DVD has a great sense of humour, I think he is pretty smart. Buy this DVD.

I found this DVD really useful to take me from absolute beginner to novice stage of playing. I found the presentation a bit stilted, but spot on with the instruction. The DVD itself I found really difficult to play every time I put it on, and it seems to have some broken spots on it. However, despite the frustration caused by having to overcome this, I would highly recommend the DVD to anyone who really does want to learn the violin.
