With Mark Olson and Gary Louris now back in unison, this is probably as good a time as any for a Jayhawks retrospective, if not long overdue. CD1 is a straight best-of, presented chronologically, which if you have all the albums, will offer no surprises. Though it will serve to remind you what a great band they are and just how many amazing songs they have. And for those who missed out first time around, the single disc version will be an ideal place to find out what many of us have known all along. CD2 is the one for the die-hard Jayhawks fan. Packed full of demo's, b-sides and unreleased gem's, including a track from their much sought-after debut album, it's a unique insight into an alternative history of The Jayhawks. The DVD is a collection of Jayhawks video's and a handful of live tracks. Overall, this is a great package and well worth paying that bit extra for.

I've loved the Jayhawks since I purchased Hollywood Town Hall 15 years ago and this is a great collection of some fantastic tunes. Contrary to other reviews I found disc 2 quite disappointing. Many of the tunes are actually earlier versions, with different names, of tracks that have already been released on existing albums. At least one of the b-sides which I do like didn't seem to make this cut.
Don't get me wrong - the DVD is interesting but personally I think perhaps I should have gone for just the single disk 'best of'. Individuals who have never come across the Jayhawks before will not be disappointed with this band.

Having never listened to The Jayhawks until by chance sampling this anthology I have to admit to missing the boat. Cleverly crafted and beautiful music. But if all music was this good what would there be to moan about. Presented in chronological order the album illustrates the development of the band both in songwriting ability and sheer musicianship. There is not really a weak track. What more is there to say. If you like Tom Petty, Steve Earle or even Wilco then you have to give this a go. A real cliche but it really is a grower and I will now be buying the source albums.
