5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute must for any Alice in Chains fan 8 Dec 2003
Format:Audio CD
This is the ultimate buy for any fan of the amazingly understated and underrated Alice in Chains. I've often asked people if they liked AIC, only to be met with blank expressions. This is a crime considering the amount of absolutely stunning songs found on this box set.
This box set fully captures everything that was amazing about Alice in Chains. They came out with so many different kinds of music. From the incredibly heavy dirge of 'Man in the Box', to the self-critical 'Dirt', to the astoundingly beautiful 'Down in a Hole', this set takes all of their greatest songs and brings them together into three discs. It captures the best from all of their albums and EP's and combines it with demos, live recordings and rarities. Songs such as 'Social Parasite', 'What the Hell Have I?' and 'Fear the Voices' can now be found alongside their classics like 'Would?', 'Rooster', 'No Excuses' and 'We Die Young'.
The highlight of the collection for me is the tracks taken from their moving 'Unplugged' set. Although they may have been at a low at this point through Layne Staley's constant heroin abuse, they had never sounded so poignant and so incredible. It's such a shame that music this good had to come from years of self-destructive drug abuse.
There is nothing on this set that I would change as it perfectly captures everything amazing about this band. This set is worth every penny and should be an essential part of everybody's music collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant- for the true AIC fanatic 8 Mar 2001
Format:Audio CD
Being a great fan of the band i though i had it all.WOW those unreleased tracks and the Demos are killer.this box set was well worth the monet spent on it and gave me , and only me, many hours of AIC at their best. The only downside of it is that i listened to it all the times that i no longer have a girlfriend as she hated them.Well im now free and single and AIC should take the credit.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best box set ever made! 14 Oct 2003
By max
Format:Audio CD
I found myself regreting buying this because this band is truly amazing and now i got this i want all of there stuff. So in a way a wasted money but then thinking about it it has alot of unrealesed material like i cant have you blues, watcha gonna do and queen of the rodeo which are brilliant and an early rooster demo a remix of the single again. The 2 new songs get born again and died and 2 songs from the last action hero film a little bitter and what the hell have i are brill. Put it this way this set is for the truly die hard fans of Alice in chains if your not dont bother. This is well worth the money with hours of music on here from the greatest band of all time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heaven Beside You...In A Box 17 May 2003
Format:Audio CD
Since Alice In Chains unofficially died in 1996, and officially died in 2002 (The death of frontman, Layne Staley of an overdose, and guitarist Jerry Cantrell's second solo album perhaps silently confirming this), there's been nothing, absolutly nothing as rollicking, frightening, or downright painful...
There was to be nothing that could not only give astounding vocal harmonies and truly sublime guitar solos, in hard rock, both on a huge heavy metal scale and respectively the more somber slower paced songs. Equally as painful and emotional, Alice did it best. Music Bank is the box set released to commemorate this great band, containing some of their best songs, along with rare unreleased demo's and songs from earlier days.
Box sets of this variety have always confused me and certain not convinced me. Why mix all the 'best' songs with rejects and unreleased efforts? It doesn't seem to make sense, and has failed on many occasions for many bands. But the fact is that all Alice In Chains songs are so damn good, you can't go wrong putting any of them together. Even the demo's have a certain quality to them, because....it's Alice In Chains. Many of the demo's on the discs (I Can't Have You Blues, Whatcha Gonna Do...) are mainly based around their original sound which was glam metal, but this is still very good music, even if it's just for novelty value, and maybe even for a bit of a laugh, but the quality shines through right from the start. Interestingly enough, the first CD kicks off with their latest, and inevitably, their last song ''Get Born Again'' which is another fine example of atmospheric heavy metal, which also showed just what Alice might have been capable of if they'd stuck around a while longer. The world would have been a much darker place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant collection - dodgy 4th disc 26 July 2004
Format:Audio CD
Other reviewers have pointed out what a brillant collection this is for getting into Alice In Chains, so I won't comment further on that. Be warned, only portions of the CD ROM will work, and the game "The Journey" is completely inaccessible. Now you know why the price has been brought down!
