I rated each re-creation of the Antique music with 5 stars, because each musician makes it on his own risk and each time final result is experiment itself, a disputable matter. And because of it it`s interesting!
Christodoulos Halaris is well-known for his reconstructions of Byzantine secular music. So he re-creates the music of the Ancient Greece as a pre-Byzantine music. It sounds solemn, a little bit heavy, with a Byzantine scent.
Musicians and singers of the band are the Greeks, so they perform this music as a part of their cultural heritage. Of course the sound of this record got nothing common with modern music for bouzuki or with the songs by Demis Roussos. While listening to this CD I think: "Probably Homero could sing so...".
Some songs (Christian Hymn) are performed in extended versions comparing with the reconstructions of this pieces by other modern musicians.
Also I highly recommend for the lovers of the Antique music and Antique culture - CDs by Ensemble De Organographia "Music of the Ancient Greeks" and "Music of the Ancient Sumerians, Egyptians and Greeks" (North Pacific Music, USA) with light, clear and melodic versions of this same and some newly founded pieces of the Ancient World music.
