This CD takes the listner on a journey through the colourful, charming, virtuosic world of Agustin Barrios Mangore, the Paraguayan guitarist whose works encompass many forms. From the serene tremelo works "Sueno En La Floresta", "Una Limonsna por el Amor de Dios" to elegant waltzes, breathtaking showpieces,any many haunting melodies, such as the beautiful "Julia Florida".

Barrios music combines folklodic elements with romantasism, putting great technical demands on the performer. In David Russel, his music has found the ideal medium, who does full justice to the wide range of expression, and technical mastery, required to play these works.

I've owned this CD for a while now and it's never far from my CD player, either at home or in the car. The music is flawless and the playing so musical, if you know what I mean. Every aspiring classical guitarist should try to play Julia Florida for it's gorgeous melody - David Russell's interpretation is spot on, for me; he really is a master guitarist. Every piece on here is beautifully played.

Evocative and exciting South American guitar music beautifully played by David Russell. I hope that he will record more music by this great Paraguayan composer. I would recommend this recording to all lovers of South American music.
