This book is everything you would hope it to be - a true reflection of a sports commentator who will be sadly missed from television. It reflects his relationships with those with whom he shared the commentry box - those he got on well with - and those who he didn't get on with quite so well! It tells of how he coped with tragedy and elation (which he sometimes found hard to put into words); - his relationship with members of the various teams who all held him in high esteme due to his wealth of knowledge gained over the decades he was involved in motor sport both on two and four wheels. It portrays the professionalism and unpredictability involved in the very fast moving world of Formula 1 motor racing; and one cannot overlook the one thing for which Murray was held in great affection (if that's the word one would use) - his gaffes!!! This book is a great read - hillarious and worth every penny!

Christopher Hilton is one of the best authors on the motor racing scene today and this light hearted gallimaufry is no exception. The author has captured the Walker passion and illustrated it with the humour that always went with the commentary regardless of who was in the box "co-hosting".
Any criticism at all could be laid at the feet of Murray himself who finds it hard to criticise others, whether it be other commentators or the drivers themselves.
You wont find any dirt digging or behind the scenes secrets being revealed in this biography,........ thank goodness.
Murray is just too nice a bloke and motor racing fans will miss his unique touch. A well balanced, informative and funny biography.

This is basically an updated version of the original 'The Last Word' from 2001, this time for 2002 and in paperback, so if you already have the 2001 version you would have to have a look at it first hand before deciding to buy in that instance. The words 'Silverstone 2002' are mentioned, which gives an idea of how recently the update has been put together.

I really really enjoyed this book as I continue to wonder how we can live without his commentary. I've learned a lot of things about his past which I didn't know before, and it's also got a great bunch of those Murrayisms which made him fameous.

I started reading at 7pm and didn't put it down till I reached the end at nearly midnight. That's how easy and enjoyable it was to read.

The only thing I should warn about is to be careful of the quotes and unquotes. Until you learn how the book is composed over the first chapter or so, it may initially be difficult to follow who is speaking the words - however, that's not a reason not to buy it - It's a book Murray fans can't do without!

Marvelous
