Product Description

Synopsis

Murphy, a Tibetan Terrier puppy, is told he is a 'good luck dog' - he is cheerful, happy, and loves to play and wag his tail. However, after going through two different homes and an animal shelter, Murphy starts to feel like a 'bad luck dog' who nobody wants. "Murphy's Three Homes" follows this adorable pup through his placement in three new homes, as well as through his anxiety, self-doubt, and hope for a new, loving family. Finally, Murphy is placed in a caring foster home where he feels comfortable and valued. He learns that he is not a bad dog after all and can go back to being a playful puppy and a 'good luck dog!'

Murphy finds a real home 17 April 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a lovely book which deals with the subject of being in foster care very sensitively. I bought it for the two children I am looking after who are aged 3 and 4 and they can relate to the story easily, but it would also be suitable for older children to read as it doesn't talk down. The illustrations are beautiful. I would definitely recommend this book.

For Children in Foster Care or Adopted (Relative or Not) 28 Dec 2009
By Y. Gastelum - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a great book for children who have been in multiple homes and need an explanation about why that is. For younger children especially, who may not be ready to be told the exact reason, this book provides an easy explanation. It shows that Murphy, the puppy, finally ends up in the home best for him, where the people can take care of him, have time for him, and are patient with him as he learns the rules. It is a very good book that young children can identify with and best of all it brings home the idea that it is not their fault and that they are not bad, but rather that there are some homes that are best and others that are not.

Good Discussion Starter 13 Sep 2009

My husband and I are becoming Foster parents and hope to adopt soon. We got this book for our nieces and nephews (ages 3-11) as a way to introduce them to the concept of foster to adoption. The book had a very powerful impact on them and gave the children just enough information to create positive dialouge and understanding. We will continue to use this book once we have foster children in our home as a way of justifying their feelings of being in foster care.
