His thick and fast-growing medical file says he should be retired, but Detective Martin Murphy wants to get back on the streets, doing what he does best.

Great Crime Thriller 11 Sep 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the first Bateman novel I've read and picked it as he has been compared to Christopher Brookmyre (a brilliant crime drama writer if you've never read anything by him) in his style of writing.

I really enjoyed this book for a few reasons mainly as it was an entertaining story with great characters. Murphy's character has a machine gun wit and comes out with some hilarious one liners. On a few occasions I found myself laughing out loud at yet another razor sharp line of dialogue.

The style of writing is easy to read and well written, with time and care taken to paint a picture of each person in the story. You feel genuine sympathy for Murphy and his harrowing past which makes him all the more fallible as the hero of the story.

There were times when the story meandered but these were brief and rare, with the main body of the story being a really great read and a true page turner.

I'd heartily recommend this to anyone who likes the crime drama genre with a comic twist. Will definitely be reading the follow up 'Murphy' books.

By Zelda
Format:Paperback
Dark humour mixes with the violence of the tough criminal underworld in this fast paced tale of gangland villains and diamond theft.

Murphy is a complex character living with a highly troubled personal life and police career history. He pushes his police bosses to their exasperated limits to get himself assigned to this particular case, yet he and they all wonder if this might just be a case too far for him.

Murphy infiltrates the criminal fraternity and gains their trust - for a while. As the mystery of the diamond thefts unfolds, we encounter surprising displays of criminal family bonds set against horrors such as an innocent victim being buried alive. All the while, Murphy loses himself in booze and music at any opportunity to help ease his emotional and physical pains whilst crime solving.

Bateman has delivered another riveting read in 'Murphy's Law'. Don't miss it.
