Product Description

Product Description

Under shattered skies, fifty-seven illegal immigrants are murdered outside of the town of Heater, Arizona, a dying town in a dying civilization. Their deaths in a ritual sacrifice awaken Sheriff Elliot Pierce, Father Albert Hayne, pregnant survivor Maria Diaz and all of the people of Heater to an evil as abhorrent as what is happening in the sky overhead, an evil that is linked to what is happening in the sky, to their fate and to the fate of the entire world.

Murderer's Sky is the first book of the speculative, dystopian horror trilogy Under Shattered Skies. Set in a world not too different from our own, a world where humanity has passed the point of no return in its exploitation of the planet, a world where the monster threatening the future of life on this planet is the sociopathic inclination of its dominant species. Is there still a chance to save it all? Perhaps, but only if we can overcome isolationist tendencies and achieve a new degree of empathy with the world in which we live. Can that happen? Or are we damned to commit suicide by ignorance? Find out in Under Shattered Skies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shattered reader. 20 July 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is genuinely a book which cannot be put down. The author draws you in with a tale of mass murder in the desert, local cops trying to keep some semblance of order against deteriorating conditions and a non-responsive child able to draw vivid and terrible scenes which all come true. The pace and the power of the book increase almost to a point of rapture as the past of a new character grows phoenix-like from from a terrible background of Mayan history. This is the finest book I have read in a long time. It has originality and the power to immerse you from beginning to end. I highly recommend this book and I eagerly await the sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shattered reader 20 July 2012
By Mr. Patrick Barrett - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
After a lifetime of reading, this has to be one of the best books I have ever read. The author led me into a world on the brink of breakdown. A mass killing on the outskirts of town tests the local police who are trying to keep up their standards in the face of nation wide hopelessness. The author introduces the different viewpoints of the characters in a way which builds up the picture as a whole without any clumsy information dumps. The increase in pace and tension is perfect with each character and I defy anyone to put this book down after the half-way mark. This is the gold standard of writing and I can't wait for the sequel. Highly recommended at any price.

5.0 out of 5 stars compelling, spellbinding story 19 Oct 2012
By RAL in the West - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Having loved the author's first book, "Complete Tales of da Yoopernatural," (I still remember certain scenes vividly) I was eager to acquire this one and get started. It only took about two pages to be completely hooked. I started while on vacation and read the entire time and far into the night, leaving others to do the driving. PD Allen has a gift for drawing in the reader, giving tantalizing hints of horrors about to unfold, then changing direction and taking us somewhere completely different, creating varied threads that I'm sure will mesh at some climactic point. In this way, Shattered Skies reminded me of Stephen King's The Stand.

For some reason, I didn't quite catch the fact that this is book one of a trilogy, so I read on, seeking answers, only to find my appetite whetted for book two, which is available, so I'll be picking that up right away, and from what I understand, book three is nearly out as well.

Character development is stellar: this is my own particular required component. I can't enjoy a story that fails in this area. I will give warning that there is one extremely disturbing scene. It did not dampen my enthusiasm for reading on, however. At least not for very long. It is horror, after all.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars An action-packed dynamo of a novel. 4 Oct 2012
By G. Polley - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The first in a series, P. D. Allen's new novel is a swirling, action-packed story of social collapse, corruption and evil at just about every level in this brilliantly drawn story set in rural Arizona. It's one of those captivating stories that lingers in the memory. It's certainly one that I won't forget anytime soon.
