When her handyman dies of taxine poisoning, Edna Davies, amateur herbalist, becomes the prime suspect. Nearly certain that she hadn't concocted a poisonous potion and desperate to save herself from arrest, Edna taps into strengths she never before realized she possessed. 5.0 out of 5 stars Really good 24 Dec 2012

I only bought this book because I am familiar with the Providence area where the amateur sleuth has just moved to. I have rather taken to the mature Edna Davies and enjoyed this story. Although the next one is set in Colerado, I have read that one too, and shall finish the series in time. It is good to read an intelligent book without having to wade through unnecessary bad language and toe curling sex scenes. It ends well too

4.0 out of 5 stars a good read 14 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would have given it 5 stars but at times the characterisation and unfolding of the plot was overly complicated. A little more explanation along the way would have helped keep track of who was who and what was what.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unusual 9 Jun 2013

Slightly different take on a detective novel - middle aged grandmother with a recipe book of poisons. Rather predictable culprit but then I do read a lot of detective novels so maybe it would not have been so easy for some to work it out. Ms Young does have a nice writing style and I will try her again at some later date.

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Read Mystery 23 May 2013

Thought this book easy to read. Also undemanding so good to read if you are not wanting something too gruesome or psychological.

3.0 out of 5 stars Angela Lansbury-esque 9 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A very undemanding read. Light, easy and straightforward cozy murder mystery type story. The plot twists are very obvious and can be spotted a mile off, with some coincidences being quite ridiculous & the ending used every cliche in the book, but the characters and their interaction are very good and well written. So overall an undemanding book that is a fairly enjoyable Sunday afternoon read. If it was a TV programme it would be like Murder She Wrote.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit different 17 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It is O.K. but you become irritated at the behaviour of the main
character trying to be a detective in ridiculous circumstances.
