'Murder Suicide' is the first novel by Ablow that I have read and although it did not put me off reading another it certainly was not a great book.

Dr Frank Clevenger is a famous psychiatrist who works with the police to catch killers. He has been hired this time for a routine case of suicide but he soon decides that everything is not as it seems. A brilliant engineer has killed himself the day before he was about to receive a life changing operation. What would drive him to suicide? Or was it as Clevenger suspects, murder?

This is the fifth book in the series of Clevenger novels and throughout it refers to past cases (all of which sound more exciting than the current one!) Rather than looking at the crime from a physical point of view Ablow explores it through the mental states of the leading suspects. For the first third of the book this works well but as the novel continues the different paths become confusing and somewhat overly complicated.

I get the impression from reading this novel that Ablow's earlier efforts are more conventional and follow killers as they act and not after the fact. I think that this would suit the style of writing better as the introverted aspects of this book grew tiresome.

I will certainly read other books by this author to see if they are better but due to the overly complicated and convoluted structure of this story I began to stop enjoying it near the end. However, still better than Kellerman's 'A Cold Start'!

LOVE IT! LOVE IT!, DR CLEVENGER IS A GENIUS, KEITH ABLOW HAS WONDERFUL IMAGINATION BUT ALSO SHOWS YOU OBVIOUSLY THAT HE HAS GREAT EXPERTISE IN THE PSYCOLOGICAL PATTERNS OF THE HUMAN MIND. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! PLEASE I PLEAD WITH YOU READ IT AND YOU BE THE JUDGE. ONE THING I KNOW FOR SURE IS THAT I AM DEFINATELY LOOKING FORWARD TO READING ALL OF KEITH ABLOWS' NOVELS, AS LONG AS DR CLEVENGER IS THE PROTAGONIST, I KNOW ITS GOING TO BE A WINNER.

The 5'th in the Clevenger series, weaker than the others (hence average rating) but still worth a read. A scientist is killed shortly followed the next day by the death of his mistress, hence the immediate analysis of "murder/ suicide). As Frank explores we meet a whole host of suspects from family, friends and business partners. A real psychological challenge for Frank.
