Book Description

Murder Passes the Buck is approximately 60,000 words.

When her neighbor is shot and killed, sixty-six-year-old widow Gertie Johnson seizes the opportunity to move on with her life by investigating his death. Gertie is abetted (and hindered) by her grandson Little Donny, man-hungry best friend Cora Mae, and word-of-the-day challenger, Kitty. It doesn’t help that the death has been ruled an accident by the sheriff of this backwoods community in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Or that Sheriff Blaze Johnson happens to be Gertie’s son.

Whether it’s interrogating neighbors, spying, or impersonating the FBI—not to mention staying one step ahead of Blaze—Gertie will do whatever it takes to solve the case, even when the killer takes aim at her.

Praise for the series:
“Laugh-out-loud funny” Crimespree Magazine

“Fans of Janet Evanovich, imagine Grandma Mazur with a shotgun.” Green Bay Press Gazette

5.0 out of 5 stars Take A Wild Ride With Gertie 17 Jun. 2011
    Format:Kindle Edition
It's a hair-raising ride when Gertie Johnson gets behind the wheel, and readers will enjoy the trip. Unique characters, headed by Gertie, drive the action when her neighbor is found dead with a bullet hole in the head, fired from his own gun. Gertie believes it was murder, but the local Sheriff (her own son) thinks Gertie is out of her mind--and the tries to prove it. Sometimes Gertie's her own worst enemy, but that also drives the humor as she somehow manages to wriggle out of one uncomfortable situation after another.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshingly good 27 Nov. 2013
    By Perkins
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I liked Gertie from the very first line. By the second chapter, I loved her. Living as she does, in an old established, traditional hunting community, she is one tough, stubborn lady. Recently widowed, her insistence on viewing every death in the neighbourhood as suspicious has more to do with her feelings of loss and loneliness than she is prepared to admit. There is great depth to this wonderful character and in fact, all the characters in this fast-paced story are vividly drawn. I thought the family love-hate relationships were brilliantly portrayed and must strike a chord with many readers. Poor, long-suffering Little Donny was a great character and I wished he'd been able to do just one thing right during his stay. Long may Gertie continue to give her son, Blaze and all of her UP neighbours cause for concern.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Good Fun Read 1 July 2013
    By Susan D

This was a very unusual story.
The story is about sixty-six-year-old widow Gertie Johnson.
A neighbour of hers turns up dead.
Everyone thinks it's just a hunting accident but Gertie is suspicious.
Gertie is always investigating everything since her husband passed away.
Everyone things she is barking up the wrong end of the tree
    and just causing trouble.
The story follows Gertie, her friends and her family
as she try's to find the truth.
I really enjoyed the story! It is fun, believable and exciting.
I really enjoyed the different characters and the fun things
Gertie gets up to in her quest.
I would highly recommend this book as a really
    smiley fun read :-)
I give the book 5 out of 5!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Read 16 April 2013
    By janeyB
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have never bothered to review a book before and although I read hundreds of books a year this one I felt deserved a mention, it was so funny in places I laughed hysterically and when my husband wanted to know what was so funny he roared with laughter when I told him, that is very unusual to find in a book, something funny to read and just as funny in someones own words explaining the situation. For a free download this was excellent entertainment which I would urge anyone to read,it would brighten the dullest day or mood. The plot was well thought out and written and you were kept guessing throughout and kept laughing.

Another book in the genre of Agatha Christie where the older person is the ideal one for solving crimes that younger people can't seem to manage. Excellent.
