Faro is inept in this story !! 18 Mar 2011

**SPOILERS**

I have always enjoyed reading Alanna Knight's books, from her early work in the 1970's through to the Rose McQuinn mysteries, but this book really disappoints.

It is a recent book, but has Inspector Faro recall one of his early cases.
He is on assignment in England and is confronted by several mysteries.

One involves his fear that a friend will be murdered. However, he does absolutely nothing to prevent this from happening. Even when he has evidence in his hands, he lets it go without investigating.

The other mysteries, as he suspects, are all tied together, involving a criminal's convoluted, and often inexplicable, actions. Even though Faro figures it all out, again, he does not take proper action.

Instead of checking out the place he suspects the criminal is hiding, he allows himself to fall into several traps. Then, instead of informing fellow law enforcement officers what he knows, he just sits there, quietly, for days, until he, himself, is nearly killed.

Saving the day is someone who really has no part in the narrative. A very contrived ending.

I thought Inspector Faro is supposed to be a great detective. Why then is he portrayed as being so inept??!!
