Book Description

Allie McGregor is thrilled when she inherits a Victorian Mansion from her estranged aunt, Eliza Ramsdale. The mansion is one of Stony Point, Missouri's famous Painted Ladies, but the inheritance comes with strings attached. Eliza wants Allie to find the truth and clear the name of her husband, Otis Ramsdale, who died in prison. Allie accepts the challenge, but first she has to discover who is trying to drive her out of her new home.
Clay Carver just wants the job of restoring the Ramsdale house. He never planned on falling in love with the attractive new owner, but as the threats grow in intensity, Allie and Clay join forces to find the person behind the attacks. Can they stop the attacker before he or she goes too far?

4.0 out of 5 stars Nearly read in one sitting... 28 Jan. 2013
By Sarahj
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Bought this when it was on offer, and because it sounding interesting. It felt a bit stilted and the start, and I was wondering if I would get into it, but I did and nearly finished it in one sitting, trying to figure out the conclusion. The languages used was quite good, but could have been better, and I would have liked more description when it came to the restoration of the place. The story was quite eerie in places and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have only given four stars based on content - bit more detail and a longer story and it would have got a five. Will however, look for more books by Barbara Warren.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a load of cack. 27 Feb. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book promises to be the worst I have ever had the misfortune to pick up if I could be bothered to venture past the first chapter. The dialogue does not draw you in but smacks you in the face with a tedious predictable and childlike presentation. Irritating in the extreme.
I would not have given it a star but unfortunately unable to submit my review without one!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Pedestrian and not very engaging 6 Feb. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The information provided about this book made it sound like one of the same genre as Barbara Michael's mysteries. I think that may be what it aspires to but the prose was pedestrian and the plot very unsubtle. I didn't warm to the heroine, either.

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A pretty story with enough history and romance to keep it interesting. Likeable heroine but the villain needed more development.

5.0 out of 5 stars Murder at the painted lady. 19 Jan. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This story has all the characters and action required for a murder mystery combined with a slowly developing romance. Based in an old Victorian house it keeps the reader engrossed to the very end. A good way to spend a rainy weekend.

Gripping from the start, reminded me of an agatha Christine novel. Lovely setting, good sense of drama and likeable characters.

2.0 out of 5 stars Rather slow contrived tale
Disappointingly predictable and rather dull after an interesting beginning. Too many characters and confusing family links do not make for exciting reading.
