5.0 out of 5 stars Great village mysteries, 13 Dec 2010
This review is from: Murder on Monday (Lois Meade Mysteries) (Mass Market Paperback)
For those of use who have enjoyed Agatha Raisin and Simon Brett as I do, think I may have discovered another author!
Ann Purser has written two series of detective books, Lois Meade and Ivy Beasley series are village mysteries with a similar style and tone to Beaton. Lois Meade is a cleaner/police informant who juggles family life with solving murders! Ivy Beasley is in a nursing home and uses her experience to help solve a murder with three other sleuths. Not difficult to read or taxing on my Christmased brain but good fun and well worth a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars great cosy mystery, 31 July 2008

Lois Meade, the protagonist in this story, is a working class cleaning lady working in the village of Long Farnden. When a murder takes place in the village hall Lois realises as the cleaner for five of the residents that she is in a unique position to help the police catch the killer. There are a few surprises for Lois and the reader in the process. Ann Purser has written an intriguing mystery with really believable characters. Lois may not seem the most likeable to begin with but I grew to care for her character and look forward to reading the rest in the series. I love M.C Beaton and I think anyone who is a fan of her work would probably appreciate this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice 'village cozy' but cannot warm to main character!, 1 Dec 2010

I have to agree with J.Lesley's review, Lois Meade is much too prickly for my liking aswell. I have just finished the third book, Weeping on Wednesday, and she still has not really changed her attitude. She seems unnecessarily rude and very abrupt especially to the character Inspector Cowgill. (whom I like) Surely, any other DCI, would have told her in no uncertain terms to..'Sling yer 'ook love'..ages ago! That said, I shall continue to read the whole series as most of the other characters are very enjoyable and the detail of the village and surrounding area is very well written...and I do like a 'Village Cozy'!!
