DVD Description

MURDER INVESTIGATION TEAM is the gripping crime drama series that focuses on the UKs case cracking Metropolitan Police – Elite Special Crimes Unit. Viewers witness the investigation through the eyes of those closest to the action, namely the two women officers DI Vivien Friend (Samantha Spiro, Tomorrow La Scala, The Bill) and DC Rosie McManus (Lindsey Coulson, Eastenders) who head up the otherwise all male Murder Investigation Team. Each gritty, hard-hitting episode begins with the discovery of a body and follows the investigation as it unfolds, with every shred of evidence explored and no stone left unturned as the team put murder under the microscope.

Synopsis

This DVD presents the entire first series of Murder Investigation Team, a gripping crime drama series that focuses on the Elite Special Crimes Unit. The MIT is headed up by two women officers, who begin each gritty hard-hitting episode by unravelling the mystery behind a dead body by placing the murder under a microscope.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent police procedural, 12 Jan 2007
By H. D. Beach "heatherdownunder" (Sydney, ex-pat, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
We currently live in Sydney and the TV is not good in Oz, so on those long winter evenings (!) thank goodness for satellite and the UKTV channel we get which shows lots of UK drama and soaps. I caught an episode of this series and had to get the DVD as a result. I wasn't disappointed - I'm amazed it looks like they only made one series.

It's filmed in such a way that you really feel you are following the action with the team, and the angles and tricks used give you none of the feeling of "it's all acting" that you get in some equivalent US dramas.

The acting is good, but really the plot and action carry you forward - it's got a "real life" feel which is very compelling. The little tensions between the characters, and elements of their personal lives are glimpsed but not over played.

Finally - can't believe old Tarrant from Blakes 7 (Steven Pacey) has such a bit part!

Thoroughly worth watching - although you might want to pace yourself - watching a few at one go and the pattern gets kind of similar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Far better than the Bill!!, 5 May 2006
By Jezz "Jezz Bullock" (NEWCASTLE, STAFFS United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
The first case features the death of a Sargent from the Bill, after this episode there is no other connection with the Bill (thank God).

Each episode starts with a body and you follow the case as it progresses. Whilst you do get to know each of the investigators you left in no mind what it is you are watching, not as many recent dramas have become soaps. If I'm watching a crime program I'm not that interested in who is sleeping with who unless it relevant to the storyline, luckily the writers don't have to fall back such lazy writting.

The cases they are involved are gritty and sometimes disturbing when they are finished you are left wanting more. When this was first aired I missed it I got this from Amazon because it was going cheap but had i known about it before I would have paid full price to see it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars why only the one series???, 23 April 2009
By David Spanswick (Brighton United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
having just devoured all 8 episodes of this remarkable series I am amazed that no further programmes were made. Was it due to the fact that the lead detective/investigators are both women? ~ still such a rarity in the genre.

This is far and a way the best series of investigative police procedural dramas I have ever seen on British television. Everybody in it is excellent. The acerbic Samantha Spiro's DI may take a little getting used to but once you get past her seemingly hard approach to the murders you can see her for the expert she really is.

The greatest joy of the series is that it is not weighed down with endless back stories of the main characters. The editing is fast, there is not a single wasted moment ~ can you say that about any TV series before The Wire? the characterisations are way above standard and the stories are so good

I can not recommend this series highly enough. It died on television for reasons I have mentioned above but finding it on dvd is a great treasure and know that I will be sharing and rewatching this truly great set of dramas.
