I was put off this book for a long time by the garish cover which made me think it would be really naff. I bought it in desperation for an Alaska 'fix' and really enjoyed it. I liked the main characters who were believable and not irritatingly too clever or beautiful etc. The account of the race itself was atmospheric and I will follow it with great interest next year. Shame about the first murder victim who could have been a interesting character.

This was an action-packed, fast-paced thriller that will be a joy to anyone familiar with the famed Alaska sled dog race of the title. The characters are truly Alakskan. The plot is good, but the detailed description of the tough race and wilderness conditions endured by the characters makes the book.
