Book Description

31 Mar 2012 Alicia Allen Investigates
Through her Uncle Vico, a New York attorney, Alicia Allen, a young London solicitor, is introduced to Fabio Angelino to deal with the Probate of his mother's English estate. Fabio's father once worked with Vico at the New York firm of Scarpetti, Steiglitz & Co., but sixteen years earlier disappeared in Sicily, the Italian police concluding that he was murdered by the Mafia. After a trip to the Amalfi Coast, Fabio tells Alicia someone has tried to kill him. When Fabio's sister, Giulia, is found callously murdered, Alicia investigates their father's disappearance, and is convinced that Giulia's research on the Angelino family background in Lucca holds the key to the mystery. Finding evidence of massive corruption in both London and Italy, Alicia determines to expose the criminals. But in her bid to entrap them, has Alicia taken on malevolent forces too great, and will this be her last investigation?

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece of crime writing - Go Buy! 24 July 2012

Having read the first two parts of the Alicia Allen trilogy quite quickly, I couldn't wait to read the final part, and I regret not having had time to put this review on Amazon as soon as I had done so, as Celia Conrad really has completed her crime trilogy in masterly fashion. Once again, her truly engaging half-Italian solicitor sets out to solve a heinous crime, but remarkably, although much of the action takes place in Italy, much of Alicia's investigation into the murder of her client's sister takes place in London, where she delves into corruption amongst Anglo-Italian property lawyers, and the complications of Italian inheritance law in order to catch her killer. With all the panache that readers of the first two parts must have loved, Celia Conrad has now created a superb character who lives on-the-edge-of-legal in Alicia's uncle Vico, and a truly monstrous villain whom she allows the reader to know quite early on is the object of Alicia's quest for justice, which in no way diminishes the brilliance and fast pace of the story, once again told through vibrant dialogue. If you have not read the Alicia Allen trilogy, you have missed out on one of crime fiction's most enjoyable treats. Highly recommended!
