This is a classic British murder mystery set in a Kenya-like setting. I've recently been reading Elspeth Huxley's biographical accounts and love her writing. She really conveys, perfectly, a sense of place. So this is a classic British mystery with a fantastic overlay of Huxley's sense of place as well as having characters who, based on my reading of British period works, seem to be very well delineated. I've read mysteries for 60 years, my Mother was a big fan, but had given them up, lately, as being empty calories. However, Huxley's hooked me.
