Interesting view of gangsta rap from the East's perspective., 8 May 2001

This review is from: Murder of Biggie Smalls (Paperback)
Another interesting look at the East Coast-West Coast, Bad Boy-Death Row confrontation that led to the death of the two label's brightest stars. Unusually, this book looks at the facts from the East Coast perspective, instead of focusing on the more controvertial Tupac Shakur.
Scott provides a look at Biggies youth growing up in Brooklyn and as an underling of Tupac before he made it big on his own. She also presents an interesting look into the rumours surrounding Biggie's murder..If I have a criticism of this book, its one that is very evident in all books of this nature. The author seems to repeat herself endlessly in each chapter, reiterating who each person is and what they do. Because of this, the book feels more like a collection of essays than a unit on its own.
Good book though and well written, when you take into account that the author freely admits that she is not a fan of hip hop.

Detailed evaluation of the death of The Notorious BIG, 9 May 2001

Like Cathy Scotts book about the death of 2Pac This is an excellent read and tells in great detail the events leading up to the murder of the rap star. The East .v. West coast rivalry is examined and the book explains Biggies relationships with rappers such as Puff Daddy, Lil Kim and 2Pac. Although not as interesting a read as the previously mentioned story of 2Pacs death (mainly due to the real lack of conspiracy theorys surrounding Biggies death) the book is fascinating and a must read for fans of Hip Hop
