Fantastic 24 Oct. 2012
By Buffy - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
Ego is the companion catalog to the Murakami exhibition held at the ALRIWAQ Doha museum in Qatar. It's a large format, full-color book with quality paper and solid binding. The main emphasis of this book is in presenting Murakami's newest works created since his massive "Copyright Murakami" retrospective back in 1997. The book is almost entirely full color pictures with only about 20 pages devoted to text. You get to see paintings, sculptures, installations, and animation stills. There are several foldout pages to show off a few of the extra wide paintings. The work continues in his trademark Superflat style and even though he has been exhibiting for over twenty years now his paintings have a very 21st century feeling. Ego is a nice addition to the older Copyright Murakami retrospective book. There are a handful of older pieces shown but it's mostly new work since 1998 including pieces done in 2012. To get the complete career overview the Copyright Murakami book remains the definitive retrospective and is a must-have. If you already have that book there is very little overlap in images and Ego is well worth purchasing. Highly recommended for new and old Takashi Murakami fans.

Love! 20 Mar. 2014

I love love this book. If you are on the fence, just get it. It's Murakami! Not too lengthy where you wouldn't bother cracking it open, but just enough amazing artwork and eye candy to keep you revisiting. I love that the cover is cushioned, it adds a nice texture. The pages are nice and sturdy and honestly, I could stare at Murakami artwork all the time! I love his series of work featured in this book and am contemplating buying more as gifts!

If You Like Murakami, You'll Love This Book 23 Jun. 2014
By Corey Lidster - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
It's Published by Rizzoli, one of the finest and most prolific Artbook Producers in North America, and is beautifully designed. It features a 'puffy' cover, which is a standard hardcover wrapped in plastic with a cotton or fibre-glass gauze in between; it's printed on high-quality paper and the reproductions look amazing. Being the multi-media-master that Murakami is, this book includes not just his 'Superflat' paintings, although there are many on display, but also his prints and sculptures and videos, etc. Based on a huge retrospective of the same name, this is the perfect monograph for new Murakami fans, with enough substance to appeal to older fans as well. I particularly liked the huge fold-outs that display his longest paintings, which are just several feet tall but hundreds of feet long. Details like that are what make a great artbook. Though I'm not the biggest fan, preferring art that doesn't so gleefully embrace mass production and dozens of assisstants who do most of the actual painting, I can appreciate Murakami on a certain level, at certain times. Nevertheless, an excellent book.
Get it while it's cheap 28 Jun. 2014
By Dan Bergevin - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
In 2007 I found a copy of ©MURAKAMI at a local book store. It was big and expensive, and I opted to get it online. Which I promptly forgot to do. Shortly thereafter, it was gone forever, at least in my price range.

Now, Rizzoli is giving me another chance with this shorter, but no less brilliant, exposition of Murakami's work. Fans of his art know that his books tend to go out of print and immediately command premium prices, so any chance to snag a copy at below cover price should be taken posthaste. And while seeing this stuff live would be an amazing experience, it is essential for any fan to have a large format, full color book with tons of spreads and fantastic assortment of digital, handmade, and manufactured artwork. And here you have it.
Excellent !!! 29 May 2014

From the padded cover to the six page centerfold, this is one of the best art books ever. A great introduction to one of today's top artists. Well worth the cost.
