Product Description

Product Description

This is a self-paced professional book that shows how to use Visual Studio 2008, C# 2008, and the .NET 3.5 classes to develop Windows Forms applications. It's an object-oriented book that shows how to use business classes, inheritance, and interfaces the way they're used in the real world. It's a database programming book that shows how to prototype professional database applications using RAD features like data sources and the DataGridView control. And it's a book that shows you how to take advantage of 2008 features like object and collection initialisers, automatically implemented properties, and LINQ. When you're done, you'll be able to develop three-tiered, object-oriented applications the way the best professionals develop them. That's why we say: No other book teaches you so much, so fast, or so thoroughly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Desk companion, 30 Jul 2008
By Michael Ayers (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Having secured a new job and required to switch from VB.NET to C# and having purchased the SQL Server 2005 book by Murach (which impressed me with it's ease of style) I thought I would take in this book.

I have not been dissapointed and it has become my desk companion to quickly look up the required syntax or example.
With the easy reading style of subject description on the left and examples on the right of a 2 page layout system, the book can either be used to read from start to finish or dip into when required.

The book starts with an overview of Visual Studio 2008 including debugging and moves onto Windows applications before progressing onto Web applications.
Particular interest to me was the Object oriented programming section and inheritence sections as my new projects were OO based.
The subjects were put over very simply without long baffling text, but this does not mean anything has been left out.

The book then moves onto database programming, ADO.NET, file streaming, XML files and even LINQ.

The book finally finishes with how to deploy your application.

I eagerly await ASP.NET 3.5 using C# due out in September...

Buy this book, you will not be dissapointed if you need an introduction to C# or brush up on some new skills.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bite sized chunks to get C# in your head., 30 Jul 2008
By BrahminMC (London, UK) - See all my reviews
Great book, fantastic format.

If you are fed up of reading computing books that border on becoming a novel then this is the one for you.

Straight forward example, straight forward text. Nice to know that at least one author realises that not everyone has time to read books and volumes of pages does not make the book good.

I highly recommend this book. Go get it.

Computer Scientist & MVP.
