The set is, on the whole, great. Really nothing to complain about. The sound and image of the films are great, the extras are fun. The casing looks cool.
However out of the five films, it's only the first one (The Mummy from 1932, with Boris Karloff) that really is worth watching. The `32 original is an excellent movie, and belongs up there with Dracula, Bride of Frankenstein and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde `32. The other films in the collection are, however, really disappointing. The Mummy's Hand is OK, but unfortunately the three sequels starring Lon Chaney Jr. are essentially the same boring film done three times over.
But one could look at this box set as sort of a special edition of the original Mummy, and view the sequels as some sort of bonus features. If you are classic horror-fan, pick this up. The original film is great, but don't except too much from the sequels. Out of all the Universal Monster Legacy Collection box sets (featuring Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolf Man, The Mummy, The Invisible Man and The Creature from the Black Lagoon) this is the weakest set of films.

the original and superior "mummy" film was certainly going to be a hard film to equal in all areas in the wake of the sequels that would follow.
the performances of boris karloff and zita johann plus the photography and various film sets are the qualities which make the 1932 film quite unbeatable.
"the mummy's hand" made in 1940, is perfectly watchable but the comic moments tend to intrude upon the film's more serious scenes which don't come along until the film's remaining 20 minutes or more. george zucco steals the acting honours as the creepy and quite evil high priest.
the films with lon chaney jnr. are for the most part, terrible and lamentable. only the second film, "the mummy's ghost" offers anything that is remotely effective in the way of chills or thrills.
the documentary on the making of the 1932 "mummy" film is well-researched and highly informative.
in my opinion, customers shouldn't pay too much money when buying this dvd set as only the first and fourth films are worth watching.

Features all the original mummy movies apart from abbot and costello meet the mummy. The box looks great and the inside seems like a book. Definitely the best one to get if you want the universal mummy movies.
