When it's set up and working, this air filter is excellent - five star quality for the way it cleans the air. But it loses three
stars immediately for me because of a serious flaw in its design.

The unit works by establishing a base-line of good air quality when you first power it on. Which is itself a bit unfortunate,
if you're buying it because you have poor air quality in your home, rather than because you need to counter occasionally-
produced pollutants. But I can understand the thinking there: I wouldn't want the thing powering on at full power all the time
to try to get the air in my home to match the air quality in the Alps, say. Especially as the reason I bought it is because I
live upstairs from a heavy smoker, whose smoke finds it way into my kitchen, no matter what we try to block it off. But there's
no battery on board to power that memory: the unit is entirely dependent on mains electricity for its power supply. So you can't
set the air quality sensor in one room, switch off and move the unit to the location where the problem is.(Not in any worthwhile
way, anyway.) And how dumb is that, when the thing needs cleaning inside every two months? Can't wait to try to thoroughly
ventilate the kitchen in the depths of winter....

Actually cleaning inside this thing is such a palaver that I docked it the fourth star as well. (So if you don't fancy carefully
scrubbing a metal grid with a toothbrush every couple of months whilst being careful not to break very flimsy-looking,
electrical wires, this one's definitely not for you.

This is a wonderful air filter! I've had simple hepa filters and ionic breeze's in the past and none can compare to this.

I originally got it when moving into my new office (roughly 25' x 25')I had to do a lot of demo/reconstruction to get rid of a previous mold problem. I decided to pick something up that would filter out the spores that would be inevitably be lingering. I can only assume that it functioned for this purpose as well as it has on everything else.

I usually keep it on AUTO mode (it goes AUTO, QUIET, LOW, MED, HIGH), which it mainly stays on QUIET. Auto is a neat mode that senses smells and particles and will adjust the air flow rate based on it. For example if I'm 15ft away, and I use hand sanitizer, this thing picks it up about 30 seconds later and kicks into high mode (as a detected smell) - it always makes me chuckle. Depending how well the room is ventilated and size, it also detects smoke very similarly - although it seems not quite as easily as the alcohol hand sanitizer. Other things like air fresheners, general stink from work out or shop clothes, mildew smells - all seem to set it off. I've also used it while doing light sanding/finishing, dusting/vacuuming, powder insecticides, all were picked up as particles in the air and again AUTO mode auto adjusted the air speed.

I've had it for about 6months now, I clean all of the filters in it about once every couple weeks. It's pretty easy to rinse them all down (all but the HEPA/carbon). I usually take a lightly damp paper towel and kind of dust off any caked on filth on the carbon/hepa filter. I haven't had to replace the HEPA yet, I probably will around the 1yr mark.

Bought as a replacement for an old HA380 used in a birdroom for many years. I've tried many different purifiers in the past but this is the best there is, removes dander ,dust, mould spores etc. It is so good I would have given it 10 stars. (ST 3880A is a re-badged HA 380A). The old one was 8 years old when it failed but ran without problem for 12hrs per day 365 days a year before bearings failed. I would never be without one.
