5.0 out of 5 stars Great photography paper. NOT printing paper, 28 Oct 2011
By AmazonReviewer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Multigrade IV RC Deluxe 8 x 10, 25 Gloss Paper sheets (Office Product)
This is a good product and I want to put in a review that actually evaluates it as what it is. This is a black and white photographic paper and is meant to be used in the darkroom. It is NOT used for printing digital photos via a printer. Having stated that, on to the review.

Packaging:

The packaging is great. It comes in a hard box that feels very sturdy and has a good weight to it. You won't be able to accidentally bend it in any way so the paper inside is safe. The lid comes off easily and smoothly which is a plus when working in the dark room. Inside, the paper are all in a black plastic bag that is big enough to fold underneath to prevent any possible light from getting through. I usually only open the lid in the dark room and use my hands to fish out a piece of paper so not even my safelight can reach the other pieces. Besides the paper, you'll also find instructions on development times and whatnot.

Contents:

Honestly, I haven't tried anything else besides Ilford glossy and Ilford pearl so I can't really compare but I am a beginner darkroom student and these are really easy to use. Since it is a variable contrast filter, you can control the contrast using colored filters. I use the Ilford filters and, obviously, they work well with their paper. For a beginner, using variable contrast RC paper is the easiest. There's a lot of versatility and you can really get great results after experimentation. Glossy is not my favorite finish, but it is a nice place to start. The best thing about it is you know exactly which side has the emulsion. In the darkroom, you don't want to put the wrong side up in the enlarger. With glossy, it is obvious which side is "slipperier".

Overall, Ilford makes great B&W photographic paper. Just don't mistake them with printing paper.

I used this paper for a photo class and it worked like it was supposed to. I would buy it again.

The paper did not work well in my printer. It was meant for darkroom processing apparently and was not fit for my purpose.
