Book Description

8 Jun 2012
Multi-Voiced Church argues strongly and persuasively for churches in which everyone is important for the well-being and growth of the community. The New Testament indicates that the early churches were multi-voiced, participative and expectant that the Holy Spirit would speak through all members of the community. First-generation renewal movements have typically been multi-voiced, recovering this New Testament characteristic. But institutionalization (often accompanied by clericalization) has persistently reduced such diversity of participation and resulted in many aspects of church life becoming mono-voiced or restricted to only a few voices.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great challenging read 21 Jan 2013
By Tim P
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Regardless on whether you agree with them or not, the authors lay out a well thought through, biblical and theological argument that challenges the way we do church. They are aware of the pitfalls and look at these in some detail, but also show some of the possibilities and potential that each church has within them. They are not asking you to do everything in the book, but encourage the reader to start a discussion about in what ways they could encourage their church to include different aspects of mutli-voice and not just on a Sunday. Well worth a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! 11 Feb 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a great book. It is incredibly readable and easy to understsnd. The authors remind us of the importance of listening to all the people within our churces. As the minister of a Congregational church it is good to be able to think about out heritage and how our congregations have been multi voiced in that past, and should again in the future.
