Product Description

I m still the Hitler of the times. This Hitler has only one objective; justice for his people, sovereignty for his people. If that is Hitler, right... then let me be a Hitler ten fold. Robert Mugabe

Michael Campbell is one of a handful of white farmers still left in Zimbabwe since President Robert Mugabe began enforcing his controversial land seizure program, an initiative intended to reclaim white-owned land and redistribute it to poor black Zimbabweans. Since 2000, formerly thriving farms that employed thousands, now sit derelict while poverty and hunger are rife amongst the majority of the country s citizens; but 74-year-old Mike refuses to back down.

Set against the backdrop of the tumultuous 2008 presidential election, Mugabe and the White African follows Mike and son-in-law Ben Freeth s harrowing attempt to take Mugabe to an international court for racism and violation of their human rights. It is an unprecedented case, upon which rests not only Mike and his family s future, but also the future of millions of ordinary Zimbabweans who continue to suffer at the hands of one of the world s most infamous tyrants. Much of this film was shot covertly. To have been caught filming would have meant imprisonment.

Product Description

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 5.1 ), WIDESCREEN (1.78:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Commentary, Interactive Menu, Making Of, Scene Access, Trailer(s), SYNOPSIS: Robert Mugabe's rule as president of Zimbabwe has been wildly controversial, with his economic plans generally held responsible for the nation's hyperinflation and massive unemployment, while Mugabe has also been accused of widespread human rights violations. One of Mugabe's most notorious programs has been his policy of seizing farms owned by white Africans and turning them over to individuals affiliated with the Mugabe government; many of these nationalized farms have been put in the hands of people with little practical background in raising crops, with the nation's agricultural base thrown into chaos. Many white land owners in Zimbabwe have fled the country, but 75-year-old Michael Campbell is a veteran family farmer who has chosen to stay and fight; rather than turn over his property, Campbell has taken his case to an international court, accusing the government of Zimbabwe of racial discrimination and violation of his human rights by claiming ownership of his rightful property. Filmmakers Lucy Bailey and Andrew Thompson profile Campbell and present an indictment of the abuses of the Mugabe administration in the documentary MUGABE AND THE WHITE AFRICAN. SCREENED/AWARDED AT: BAFTA Awards, British Independent Film Awards, ...Mugabe and the White African ( Mugabe & the White African )

Quite simply this is the best documentary I have ever seen. Mike Campbell and Ben Freeth are a real inspiration. The film is incredibly emotional, the cinematography superb and the film score really adds to the tension of the film.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mugabe and the White African 1 May 2010
Format:DVD
This film was viewed in a special screening, many of which are currently being shown across the UK. It is a powerful true story of one white farmer's struggle against the injustice of the Mugabe dictatorship.
In my view this film should be shown in schools. The issues raised of race, culture and discrimination can then be seen within the context of the 21st century.
One family show courage and determination against all the odds. Their Christian faith is the backbone of decisions made.
A remarkable film.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mugabe And The White African [DVD] [2009] 8 April 2011
Format:DVD
After living & working in the Chibiluma Copper Mine in Zambia (1968 to 1972)I moved to Rhodesia & worked as an Engineer (1972 to 1977)in the Rodia Chemical Industries Fertilizer Plant on the Umtala Road just outside Salisbury (Now Harare). When I left in 1977 Rhodesia was one of the best countries in the world to live & raise a family. It had one of the best Education & Medical Systems in the world(had the lowest infant mortality rate in Africa). The DVD was excellantly made but horrowing & upsetting to watch. How can the civilised world stand back & let that evil & treacherous man Mugabe slaughter the innocent people of Zimbabwe both black & white. The Campbell family & their farm employees were heroes in confronting Mugabe & his cohorts.Mugabe And The White African [DVD] [2009]
