Review

A cookery book which is mouth-wateringly delightful ... the perfect selection of recipes ... -- Fiona Tarrant, Oxford Times, 13 December 1996

Even allowing for my boyish hyperbole, and growing enthusiasm for the muffin, this is surely the definitive book on the subject. -- Bill Clapperton, Edinburgh Evening News, 7 April 1998

If you like making muffins, you will learn more from this book than from anywhere else ... -- Orlando Murrin, BBC Good Food Magazine, November 2001

From the Author

Muffins have enjoyed immense popularity in Canada and the United States over the past couple of decades. This comes as no surprise: muffins are simple enough for the complete novice to bake successfully and healthy enough to enjoy without guilt!

Soon after moving from Canada to Britain in 1993, I noticed there was a growing interest in muffins here, but muffin recipes were scarce. I heard of various attempts by friends to import recipes from North America but always with disappointing results. This was inevitable as flour and measures differ significantly from one side of the Atlantic to the other.

As I sorted out these differences for myself, I enjoyed developing fail-proof, delicious muffin recipes for the British kitchen. (North American volume equivalents are also provided.) Muffins Fast and Fantastic was born! Every one of these recipes is baked and enjoyed regularly in our home, and has been carefully tested many, many times.

From its humble beginnings, Muffins Fast and Fantastic has grown by leaps and bounds: it has now sold well over 225,000 copies. Clearly this is the muffin book Britain was waiting for! In June 2001 the third revised and enlarged edition was launched, with the addition of lavish illustrations and gluten-free and wheat-free recipes and tips.

Muffins Fast and Fantastic has continued to evolve as I follow through on ideas for improving the recipes. Thus, while the 2008 edition substantially reproduces that of 2001, it also includes some updated information and variations.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the definitive muffin book 27 July 2000
By A Customer
Format:Spiral-bound
Susan Reimer's 'Muffins Fast and Fantastic' is the only book you will ever need to make perfect muffins. It gives a brief history of the muffin and breaks down the ingredients with advice on alternatives to cater for specific diets. The first basic recipe can be experimented with but there are some wonderful, practical recipes for both sweet and savoury muffins to suit all tastes. The book itself is inexpensive, sturdy for use in the kitchen and, what's more, all the recipes are in Imperial measures and easy to follow. If you want to become a master muffin maker - look no further.

I've had absolutely no disasters with any of the recipes in this book. Every single one has been excellent. Best of all, Susan Reimer includes details on how to adapt the recipes for people with food allergies. Following her instructions, I've even produced muffins free from wheat, gluten, milk and eggs that have been fantastic! Wholeheartedly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Muffintastic! 22 Sep 2005
Format:Paperback
This book may look small but its an excellent and well written little number. Not only have I cooked every recipe but it has also inspired me to experiment with flavours that I have made up. Its so simple and easy to read and as yet, no disasters to report. The children are delighted that I am making muffins bigger and better than the local bakery. I am thrilled that not only are they a quarter of the price but I know exactly what ingredients go into each one.
Buy this book, its money well spent. The only thing that will suffer is your waistband!
