My boss had told a friend that her staff would bake something for her bring-and-buy sale in aid of charity. It was nice of her to volunteer us, unfortunately I (and most of the staff) don't cook very much.
Walking through a local homestore a few days before the sale, I spotted this book and thought 'Everyone likes muffins!' I did a taste-test on my flatmates with 2 varieties (the summer berry and white choc, and the triple choc fudge-heaven on earth!), 12 of each. They were all gone in 24 hours. I live with 3 women.
The recipes are clear and easy to understand (even to a complete no-hoper like me!), with australian terminology explained at the start of the book for overseas readers. There's basic muffin recipes for the beginner and more advanced varieties for the adventurous among us. Alternative ideas are given if something in the recipe is out of season or for a different taste. The photos are fantastic, and best of all, your muffins _do_ come out of the oven looking like them!
My boss brought over everything we made on the night before the sale. She went down the following afternoon to buy some of my muffins. They'd sold about half an hour after the sale opened!!!

A cheap book packed with recipes. As someone who hadnt made muffins before, it was brimming wth info. It has a section with basic muffins in as well and then once you've mastered those, you can obviously try something more complex. It is very good value, well illustrated and has conversions as well.

Like the title of the book, these recipes are "sweet and simple". I have made a few muffin recipes from this book and they have all turned out fantastic. It is definitely the book I reach for first when I want to make a batch of muffins.

This book is a thin little book, so when it comes through the post don't expect a big muffin cookbook because that's not what this is. Its 62 pages long, so quite slim, and the majority of pages has one recipe on one side and the accompanying photo on the opposite side.
Every recipe has a final photo.

There is a conversion chart in the back of the book, but every recipe is in both cups and grams, which for me is great.
I am such a cup measurement cook!

The book does have a few random flavours in it, for example frosted carrot & orange. It also has 2 recipes in the centre pages for microwave muffins. I have not tried these, so can't say how they will turn out.

Quite a few of the recipes include buttermilk, which for me is not yet sold in my local supermarkets. This may be something you need to take into account. I am also not a fan of coconut or banana - coconut does pop up quite regularly in this book.
(I wish I had known that before hand)

It's an ok book, and if you like to bake a lot of different flavored muffins, you are happy with coconut and only want to top up on a muffin book you may already own then go for it, otherwise there are better books out there.

This is a good start to create muffins. I have made various muffins from the booklet with varying degrees of success. They all turned out well, but one was very tasteless, while others were so yummy they were gone within a day! However there is good choice and you could go for weeks making a different muffin...The instructions are good and are very simple to follow and get good results. All muffins turned out perfectly raised. Great for kids too. They can learn how to make and bake muffins with this booklet. They will enjoy the mixing and the eating (there is even a Nutella recipe).
