I'm currently training for the London marathon and have been plagued with 'runners knee' issues. First in my right knee and then most recently in my left. After numerous physio appointments, I decided to do some research of my own and came across the Mueller ITB Knee Strap.
I cannot stress enough how much this strap has helped me. About a month ago I could not even run 2 miles outside without pain and would be plagued with it for a few days. Since using the strap (which I started off using in conjunction with the treadmill) I am currently back up to 8 miles road running with no pain afterwards. It has taken a lot of determination and I'm well aware that the strap on it's own probably isn't the 'cure'. I've also been ensuring I do my leg strengthening exercises and stretches and after reading a comment on here before purchasing, also started to take daily doses of glucosamine BUT I honestly believe that the strap is what has finally cemented my road to recovery. Before using it, I was doing all my strengthening exercises in vain.
'Runners knee'/ITB issues are really frustrating. Honestly I was very close to pulling out as I really couldn't see the day when the pain would start to ease. My personal advice to anyone in a similar position is obviously first and foremost see a physio. Ensure you commit yourself to the strengthening regime they set you and there's no harm in researching some extra exercises online. I'd also suggest getting a foam roller, it's painful to begin with, but I've found it also helps ease pain after a run if the knee is niggling and it's an essential part of my stretch and strengthening routine. Be patient when recovering and don't push yourself. Even if you feel you can run another 4/5 miles, don't (I'm increasing my 'long' runs by 2 miles a week) and lastly I would definitely recommend purchasing this item.
Apologies for the long review. Good luck to anyone who is training and is currently suffering from knee issues. Keep positive :), I read reviews online of success stories and was a cynic at first, but it will get better.
