Mud Vein by Tarryn Fisher
5 stars!!

“It’s your darkness that pulls me in. Your mud vein. But sometimes having a mud vein will kill you.”

I really do not know where to start with this review. This is one book that was hard to read and is going to be extremely hard to review. With Tarryn Fisher you always know to expect the unexpected and this book is no different. While personally I didn’t like the ending it is what I have come to expect and I can see why Tarryn chose to end it that way, you know that with Tarryn at the other end of the keyboard it will never be what you think or want. One thing that you cannot deny though is that this book is flawlessly written, it will have you captivated from the start and will have you second guessing, third guessing and eternally guessing who the captor is, but such is the genius in the way it is written I bet you will be wrong time and time again. I for one never guessed and I watch a lot of crime type programmes and thought I would have seen through the plot, but alas no, I was wrong, each and every time.

If you are going into this thinking that this is a dark and erotic book then think again, I would say more of a dark, psychological thriller…more like a horror film and definitely not a romance. Actually, I think that this would make a great film, one that I would definitely watch. You are kept on the edge of your seat at all times, never knowing what is around the corner and it is that constant state of suspense that keeps you hanging and turning the pages. The words truly draw you in and you feel their fear, you feel their hunger, you feel their mental torture, you just FEEL and I love a book that makes me FEEL.

The blurb gives nothing away, only the beginning of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A definite must read! 2 Nov. 2014

I really don't know what to say about this book! All I know is that everyone should read it and you will probably either love it or hate it. I don't think there is an in between with this book.

I read this book without knowing anything about it, I didn't even read the synopsis! I saw a post from Colleen Hoover recommending this book, I trust Colleen Hoover, so I bought it and dived straight in. I think that's the best way to go into this book, you feel it more.

The story is brilliantly written, it makes you think and at times I was terrified to read on because I was scared of what I might discover next. All I can say is that it was a very intense read with a lot of feels.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bizarre story! 5 May 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I downloaded this on the recommendation of a friend and after reading all the good reviews, I have to say I felt totally let down by this book. It was just bizarre.

The story starts with Senna waking up in an isolated house in the middle of nowhere with a friend from her past. So far, so intriguing. That's where the story derails. It jumps backwards and forwards across time periods, trying to explain various events and thought processes, but it's confusing to read. There's one point where the book just becomes a completely different book for three chapters - the character is reading a book written by her ex.

With regard to Senna, I didn't get her at all. She comes across as whiny, unlikeable and antisocial. Having gone back to read some of the other reviews, I understand the general consensus is that she has Aspergers, or similar, but if that's the case then it's not really explored. I just thought she was an unpleasant person.

The only reason I finished this book was because I was so sure it was going to get better. I was wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Addictive beyond belief 25 Sept. 2014
By Nicola
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Insanely addictive. I was prepared for something good after reading 'The Opportunist' series, but even I didn't expect something so outstanding. Most books focus on feelings and lead us to believe that they are what drive a person, but not 'Mud Vein'. I'm not sure I have ever read a book that has taken me to places in the human psychy that even I wasn't aware existed; with grit and darkness, only to have me completely hooked and yearning to learn more about these characters. This particular form of darkness drew me in; I wasn't even aware that the darkness called to me. Good work!

5.0 out of 5 stars Freaking carousel worth a million stars 4 Oct. 2014
By Cundykj

Sometimes, I get to the end of a book and I think I could have written something as good if not better than that.

I got to the end of Mud Vein and thought never in a million , trillion years could I write something as heart breakingly lyrical as that. The plot had the hairs all over my body stood on end from beginning to end.

If you only read romance that gives you a warm and snugly happy ever after, this book is not for you. If, on the other hand you are prepared for your world to shift on its axis grab it and devour!

Outstanding! Bravo to Tarryn Fisher.

" Birds are the only things that grow wings. We're just left to muck through the mire like a bunch of emotional cavemen."

" To find that person, to find your soul piece, or your great love, we must count on our paths diverging, the tangling of lives, the soft whispering of one soul recognizing another."

" Love is a possession,; it's something that you own from the layers of people in your life. But if my life were a cake it would be un-layered, unbaked, missing ingredients."

I wept buckets and have a new found fear of carousels.
